Set in 1983, Keiichi Maebara just moved back to Hinamizawa. His friends are silly and his life is simple until a chance meeting with a photographer, Tomitake, has his head spinning around with a story about a mysterious, gruesome murder. His classmates are clearly hiding something so Keiichi sets out to find out what secrets the town is hiding.

The people are clearly hiding some kind of demonic secret and doing the absolute WORST job covering it up. Keiichi would ask a simple question that could have been subtly brushed off but is instead met with a dead eyed, creepy answer that basically ensures will continue to ask question or poke around on his own. I get it: the plot wouldn’t happen if Keiichi was successfully deterred but it’s almost as if the little demon girls WANT to kill him so they go our of their way to make sure to be as suspicious as possible! That took me out of the atmosphere a little. Nevertheless, it IS creepy. 3.7 out of 5.
