Chloe’s exploits have made her famous and the press is crawling around her apartment. To protect her and she secret of ghost hunters, Nyarla puts her in a mansion safe from the human world until the heat dies down. But this place isn’t as safe for Chloe as Nyarla assumed and there are repercussions for Chloe’s fame.

The big news for this volume is Kai (the sythe); his abilities and his true nature. What’s going on is told to us like it’s super important and changes everything but I feel like it was very rushed. It had no time to breathe and let me take it all in to feel the gravity of what’s happening. It’s cool but very surface level. 3 out of 5.

Chloe is making big bucks as a spirit hunter and ascending the ranks so she takes a more challenging job in direct competition with more experienced hunters and terrifying foes.

This volume has a ton of action and sets up a cool villain with some great potential to be a real threat. Chloe is still a great character with an engaging personality. Even though this is packed with a ton of information about new abilities, introducing the other hunters, and seeing them in battle, I like where this is going. 4 out of 5.

While Chloe seems to become an official reaper to help contain escaped souls, Nyarlathotep has some ulterior motives and plans working behind the scenes. As she adjusts to her new role, we meet other hunters including a necromancer with a deadly reanimated assistant.

The art is fantastic in the battle scenes. It’s easy to know what’s going on and exciting. Chloe is just the right mix of irreverent and serious when facing these scary spirits. With stories like this, the main character can be flat and angsty or too silly for the situation but Chloe has a good balance and natural reactions to all the crazy stuff she deals with now. This volume also rounds out the main cast and hits at the larger threat to come. I can see this shaping up to be a cool series. 4 out of 5.

At 28 years old, Chloé is still an unknown actress dreaming of hitting it big. While at an audition, she is attached by a ghost and Kai, a Ghost Reaper appears to help her. They end up making a deal to fight the evil spirits that have escaped Hades and send them back.

If you’ve read Madoka Magica, there’s a cute reference made here. You know it when you see it.

So far, this is a fun series. Chloé is shaping up to be a great protagonist to follow with the right balance of talent, heart, and attitude. This also has a unique take on the sprit world. We’re just getting started so we’ll see how it goes since a LOT happens in this volume to get the main cast introduced and get the plot going. It’s cool. The fast pace works for this story. 3.9 out of 5.
