Mrs. Whitaker is a widow set in her routine. One day on her regular visit to a thrift shop, she purchases an interesting cup that turns out to be the Holy Grail. Galahad informs her as much when the knight of legend appears at her door offering her treasures in exchange for the priceless item.
This is a classic Neil Gaiman story; ethereal and dream like. It’s kept small scale and contained, unlike some of his other work but as a fairytale, it’s light hearted and sentimental. A lot of Gaiman’s work can get dark but not this one.
The art complements the story and tone perfectly. Just the right amount of detail and expressive, realistic faces make the soft colors come to life. Just an overall great read. 5 out of 5.
