As our couple enjoys the school’s sports festival, Chidori is hesitant to be more physical in her relationship with Nanoha. They are also approaching graduation, after which Chidori has plans, but Nanoha does not.

Trying to balance spending time with each other, yet be there for their friends who still don’t know about them, is the main conflict in the manga. It’s all super cute and still light-hearted. Very fluffy slice of life that just makes you smile. It does still make me wonder if they will hide this secret throughout the entire series. I still can’t see this series getting all that dark, but there has to be some sort of payoff for all this sneaking around. 4 out of 5.

Nanoha and Chidori’s relationship is discovered by Mai, who has a crush on Nanoha. As they go on a school trip, tension forms between them as Nanoha is jealous of how close Chidori gets to Mai, which puts pressure on the entire friend group.

Yeah, the stakes are still pretty low considering Mai has no real ill intentions towards the couple and it’s mostly the friend group just wanting to enjoy the trip without drama. Fair, considering what a breakup can do to a friend group, even if they’re not all aware of the couple. They just need to communicate properly if they want this relationship to work. It’s a nice story beat, even if their fight went on a bit long for me. I was probably just as annoyed as their friends were. 3.7 out of 5.

After their kiss at the festival, Nanoha and Chidori are struggling to communicate with each other about wanting to do it again. Also, a former classmate of Nanoha’s, Mai, joins their school and literature club.

These two are so damn adorable.

Even with this potential rival showing up, I’m still thinking this relationship won’t crumble because of Mai unless she threatens to out them. If I were to guess, that’s probably what’s going to happen since keeping their secret is so important. If Mai doesn’t do it, someone/thing else might. It doesn’t seem like the type of series to get really dark, so if it did, it would be very out of character. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “I’m in Love with the Villainess” Manga Vol. 1, by Aonoshimo, Inori & Hanagata

Rei Ohashi is overworked, and gaming is her only escape. One day, she wakes to find herself in one of her favorite games, where she takes the chance to romance the villain in the story, Claire Francios.

While I haven’t read the light novel, this is a silly but a little creepy sort of story. Although Rei is technically in a game, she’s really pushy with Claire, even getting a job as a maid in order to be around Claire at school and at home. Claire is a classic bully girl but anyone would be creeped out if someone wormed their way into their life like this, especially since part of the maid’s duties includes bathing. It is beautiful, I love the art but yeah, the premise gets less and less funny the more I think about it. 3 out of 5.

After dealing with loneliness in middle school, Amaori Renako is ready to reinvent herself for high school. Hoping to be one of the cool kids, Renako has put herself under a ton of pressure and when she goes to the roof to destress, she meets popular girl Oduka Mai and they become friends. Renako enjoys their friendship until Mai confesses she’s in love with Renako.

The twist is that they make a deal as to when they are friends and dating on whether or not Mai’s hair is tied up. This situation leaves the door open for some funny jokes:

but as friends or girlfriends, this duo is highly entertaining. So far, we have a bit of fanservice and some suggestive talk but it’s not 18+. I’d say older teen unless the next volume changes things. This is a fun start and I can’t wait for the next one. 4 out of 5.

Nanoha and Chidori’s relationship is still a secret from their friends and Chidori thinks back on her past love.

This volume continues the very light, slice-of-life tone. Just a bunch of cute moments of their relationship as they study, hang out, etc. Since we still don’t have any particular stakes, it’s a cozy read where the reader can just enjoy seeing these girls be happy with each other and live life. I appreciate the positivity after some of the depressing stuff I’ve been reading (you’ll see those reviews soon) but it can get repetitive. Every chapter starts with how they’re keeping their relationship a secret; as if each one was serialized in separate issues so it could be picked up in any spot. It’s not as enjoyable when it’s all put together, though. 3.9 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Paris” by Andi Watson & Simon Gane

Juliet moves to Paris to follow her dream of studying painting. To make money, she paints portraits for rich debutantes and one of these commissions results in her meeting Deborah; who is under pressure from her parents to meet a nice man but instead is intrigued by Juliet.

Despite being a classic sort of story – a couple divided by class and the expectations of high society – it’s an enjoyable read. I like the characters but I would have enjoyed more development for them and I felt the French stereotypes were a bit much. I’d like to see more detail and really make Paris feel alive. But, I like the happy ending. More sapphic stories deserve a happy ending. 3.4 out of 5.

Soramori is enjoying spending time with Takebe but is hoping for more intimacy, unsure of how to bring up the subject. Meanwhile, Takebe isn’t sure if her feelings and Soramori’s are the same.

This is a great last installment for the series. It addresses the issues they’ve been having and in a natural way that’s really sweet. In the end, you feel happy for them and it’s looking like they will have a happy future. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat: Vol. 2, by Sakaomi Yuzaki

As they make plans to spend Christmas and New Year’s together, Nomato starts to realize her feelings for Kasuga are blossoming into more than just friendship.

Much like volume one, most of this is Kasuga enjoying what Nomato cooks. It’s soothing and it’s adorable to see them interacting. But seeing Nomato really think about her feelings and research what it all could mean was great representation. I also got one of me my wishes; more back story for Kasuga. But still no recipes for all the delicious food featured in the book. But, I like both characters and look forward to the next one. 4.7 out of 5.
