Since Keiichiro and Yuri have kissed, they’ve broken the rules and will be taken to Keiichiro’s grandfather to face the consequences.

You gotta respect a man who takes hot pot seriously.

That’s my favorite meal, right alongside nachos or a good burrito bowl.

Back to the point, it was nice to see Keiichiro do more things as opposed to Yuri being the one to be more proactive, albeit in the most bombastic, impulsive way possible within the confines of a young adult romantic comedy. Again, I love how honestly in love they are. Yeah, they’re still kids, and I get that this family has overbearing rules that make them want to rebel, but they are genuinely sweet together. 3.5 out of 5 for being cute but ultimately predictable.

Yuri’s been working hard at her part-time jobs to save enough money to throw a birthday party for Keiichiro, but he declines, declaring his birthday cancelled. When she tries anyway, it all goes delightfully wrong.

It’s adorable that Yuri wants to do something nice for Keiichiro, and even though it gets wacky in a way only this manga can, the overall feeling is positive and romantic. It’s silly, cute, and has some comedic beats that really work. Not much forward progress, but it was still fun. 3.5 out of 5.

Yuri and Keiichiro go on their school trip where Yuri gets brave and give Keiichiro a kiss on the forehead. This prompts his family to send his older brother, Shotaro.

At first, it seems Shotaro is going to be a kind of punishment for our couple as well as a rival for Keiichiro, but this volume keeps the comedic tone, and he’s more of a goofball. That seems to be a running theme whenever a new character is introduced. They’re forcing Keiichiro and Yuri to follow these strict rules like they’re going to be evily overbearing, but they’re never as awful as one would expect. I like that. We can play with expectations, but on the other hand, the lack of conflict and lasting consequences can make this a little tedious, as it keeps happening without making any progress. 3 out of 5.

Due to the restrictions placed on their relationship, Keiichiro is planning something special for Yuri’s birthday; a three day trip to Kyoto.

I love how Keiichiro throws himself into things wholeheartedly. Yuri’s struggling with a class? He organized a whole damn curriculum to help her. He wants to have an overnight trip within the constraints of his family’s rules? He makes that shit happen. Bless that young man because he just wants to do his best and do right by the love of his life. The comedy isn’t bad, but it’s mostly all about Keiichiro being a sweetheart. 3.5 out of 5.

Keiichiro has a packed summer schedule and Yuri manages to get a summer job just so she could see him more often. But when they attend an overnight study camp, through a series of misadventures, they end up in the same bed.

I’m glad the feelings between these two are genuine. There’s wacky moments and to me it’s a little much for Yuri to keep going so far for just a scrap of Keiichiro’s attention in his absurdly packed schedule but he clearly cares about her and is trying to do what he feels he can within the confines of his family’s demands. It’s sweet and nice to see with the other series I’m reading where one partner has deeper issues or ulterior motives. 3 out of 5.
