After an emergency teleportation, Kody and Lumine are stranded alone in Terranevo, Lumine’s home country.

I’m enjoying the location change. The new characters are interesting, and of course, learning more about Lumine is a treat. He has a classic tragic backstory for a protagonist, but it makes for a good tone only to bring back a bit of humor later on. We’re slowly learning more about other characters and the world around them, and all the magic and history is intriguing. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Lumine” Vol. 3, by Emma Krogell

After the failed kidnapping attempt, Lumine and Kody are recovering from their injuries. But they are still being hunted and Lumine’s secret of being a werewolf, thought to be an extinct species, may be exposed.

This volume has plenty of sweet moments and some bloody fights. Somehow, this manages to handle the cute and the gory equally well. It’s nice to see Kody grow closer to Lumine. He still has that same aloof demeanor he developed clearly as a defense mechanism. I am so glad that the Calla and the bullies plot is wrapped up because it makes more space for the bigger mystery behind the werewolves and Lumine’s parents not being around. Not to mention whatever is going on with Kody’s magic. 4 out of 5.

As Lumine continues his job guarding Kody, a kidnapping ring that traffics young magic users captures Kody.

While it may feel pretty standard—the creepy kidnappers, Lumine to the rescue, and the bitchy bully getting a type of comeuppance—it is beautiful. The art is adorable but also tense and bloody when it needs to be. We also get some backstory about Kody and some moments to make us laugh before it gets down to the main plot. I’m curious to see where this will all go and what the big bad will be. There are some teasers for it in the worldbuilding and I’m interested to see what it will be. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Lumine” Vol. 1, by Emma Krogell

Lumine is a werewolf who lives on the fringes of society because can only shift into a puppy. While on a desperate search for employment, he meets a witch named Kody who is not very well liked but is in need or a bodyguard.

I really enjoy collections of web toons. I find them more satisfying than reading them on my phone. Anyway, this is really cute and has plenty of intrigue to keep me interested. Lumine is adorable, earnest, and fun to follow as the mysteries are set up for future reveals. The art is lovely and has expressive humor along with some cool magical elements. I look forward to Kody and Lumine becoming good friends. Lumine is a sweet kid and Kody offsets him well by being a sad boy. They’ll be great together. 4 out of 5.
