The Pet Shop attacks Nest, spreading their forces to distract the students long enough to target Professor J.

These kids are powerful, and the action is top-notch, but this was a brutal volume. Each time it looks like one side has the advantage, something turns the tide. It bordered on tedious, I just wanted some kind of resolution at some points but in the end it was worth it. It barely slows down before we’re launching into the next plot point. I was turning the pages so fast and I’m so glad I had the next volume ready next to me because I wasn’t ready to stop. 4 out of 5.

The task force is on Black Rock Island and Suchan exhibits abilites that give the big wigs at Nest some huge concerns.

This volume doesn’t have much downtime. It goes right from Black Rock to some precarious midterms, to the attack on Nest. Again, the abilities presented are so creative and amazing to look at. The names of some of the moves are delightfully cheezy and fun and again, this colume moves so damn fast. Even when it does a flashback, it’s action-packed. Once they’re all out, this would be such an easy series to binge. 4 out of 5.

Wei Yanzi and Gu Yiliang are both young up-and-coming actors currently working on the same show but Wei Yanzi feels as if he’s overshadowed by Gu Yiliang’s natural talent and good looks. Since he’s getting some hate from Gu Yiliang’s fans, Wei Yanzi leans into those online shipping him and his costar so he sees more positive things about himself.

This is so goofy. Wei Yanzi doesn’t realize how flirty he sounds when he talks to Gu Yiliang and it’s funny to see him encouraging fanfiction of himself and his costar. I say costar because (spoiler?) they’re not really rivals; they get along pretty well the entire time. Gu Yiliang is clearly developing some feels while Wei Yanzi is clueless. It feels a little scattered but it’s still cute. And a clean read so far at a 13+ rating.3.7 out of 5.

After dealing with Breeder and his cohorts, Nest is preparing for an all out war with the shady organization called Pet Shop. To try and find out more about them, Nest decides to hold a tournament to select the best freshman to be scouts.

The tournament is a decent plot point but it’s clearly designed to have more fun powers on display and get to know the cast more, and it does the job. The cast is diverse and interesting enough and the stakes are high enough to keep things exciting so, this volume flies by. There’s a bit of fanservice but the action is awesome. this series really shines in it’s fight scenes. 4 out of 5.

Anyone can get a random message from an unknown entity saying you are going to hell and exactly how much time you have left. At first people think it’s just an urban legend but then a man is chased, beaten, and burned away by hulking demons; fostering religious cults and widespread panic.

I read this before I watched the show but this gives me the same types of vibes Remina should have given me but didn’t quite get there in the horror department. This is really good at showing how crazy people go when faced with a great unknowable force. The point doesn’t seem to be the demons or the prophesies, it’s how people react in different ways as they try to make sense of it all. It is dialog heavy when it’s not violent and gory so if you don’t like violence or don’t have the patience for a lot of talking, then give this a pass. Personally, I didn’t mind those at all. 4 out of 5.
