This graphic novel goes through Vlad’s childhood where he acquired his taste for blood and his rise as a brutal warrior.

First off, I can appreciate the aesthetic choice to have this in black and white but I think this would have benefitted from deep, dramatic coloring. This is also heavy in period politics along with the blood and battles and that made my eyes glaze over sometimes. It also feels like it should have been longer but this is a good adaptation of Vlad’s history if you’re interested in Dracula’s story. 3.5 out of 5.
