With Patience still using the Kick Ass identity, Mindy hunts her down and wants to eliminate her. Somehow, Patience must finish her work getting rid of crime and survive a child assassin.

I respect this for skipping the “enemies to allies” trope here; which is exactly what this series would do. They’re all about bucking traditional narratives. However, there is something to be said for traditional narratives as this story doesn’t feel like it hit a conclusion. It just stopped. Not to mention the art is hard to look at in some places. I like it for what it is and I did enjoy Patience as a character; but I’m also glad I got this from the library and didn’t pay for it myself. 2.7 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Breath of Bones: A Tale of the Golem” by Steve Niles, Matt Santoro & Dave Wachter

During WWII, a Allied plane crashes near a small Jewish villiage. While the citizens don’t agree on whether or not to hide the injured pilot, the Nazis come to investigate the village. Rightfully fearing the worst, they summon a golem made of mud to protect themselves.

Poignant and short, this is a beautiful story about family, faith, and honor. It does a great job with it’s story; leaving no room for fluff. Usually something this short would feel incomplete but this is satisfying and highly recommended. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Kick-Ass: The New Girl” Book Two by Steve Niles & Marcelo Frusín

Patience is expanding her reach, taking down or absorbing increasingly dangerous criminal organizations. Doing good with her money, she also has people working with her and using her money to help her community. But Patience has made dangerous enemies who are not happy with her meddling.

This volume goes more into the real issues dealing with a double life and how it affects her family. While I enjoy the idea of Patience leading this gang to do some good, I don’t feel like this idea is explored. It’s just told to us while the meat of this is the other cartels and mob trying to taker her down. Probably to keep up with the requisite need for tons of violence. 3 out of 5.
