Now that things have calmed down, Ko and Nazuna try to have time together but first they have to solve the problem of Nazuna’s destroyed apartment building. As she looks for a new place to live, Ko resumes going to school, meaning less time to roam about at night.

With all the stuff going on with Kiku, I forgot that if Nazuna has feelings for Ko and turns him, Nazuna could die. Since she was born a vampire that may not happen but the Kiku drama ended, I can see why Nazuna would be having second thoughts. And even though it cuts in to his time with Nazuna, it’s nice to see Ko hang out with other people. He’s always seemed so isolated and even though he still wants to become a vampire, it’s good he has people around him who aren’t vampires. 4 out of 5.

Hina is a vampire who loves anime and since she’s never bitten a human, she gets permission from her father to move to Japan where she can be closer to the media she adores. Her neighbor, Kyuta, looks exactly like her favorite character but has none of the fictional man’s personality. Despite this, they do become friendly even though Kyuta is hiding something from not only Hina but his own friends as well.

Hina is adorable. She really makes all this fun and I love characters who are bubbly and cute but will flex their considerable power when necessary. Of course, Kyuta is the perfect deadpan foil to her otaku energy. I wonder if this series will keep it’s light hearted tone or if it will go a more serious/dark route as I can see the potential for both given what happens but we’ll see as the series continues. For now, I’m enjoying the positivity. 4 out of 5.

Nazuna and Mahiru continue to talk before Nazuna leave to allow Mahiru and Ko to finally have a conversation. The outcome of Kiku and Mahiru’s plan finally comes to fruition, leaving Ko with mixed emotions.

I’m so glad the mess with Kiku is over. My dislike of her and the lives she’s destroyed makes it hard for me to feel satisfied but at least it’s over. Now I’m hoping to get more of whatever Ko’s powers are shaping up to be and his relationship with Nazuna now that “Wee, I’m gonna be a vampire” fervor has calmed down with the reality of such an act not being so much fun. 4 out of 5.

Ko goes to meet with Kiku about her intentions with his best friend, Mahiru and it ends with Kyoko finally demanding the real reason why Kiku ruined her family. Meanwhile, Nazuna has some quality time with Mahiru.

This series still somehow has a way of surprising me. I did not expect the events of this volume. I expected some huge violent confrontation once Kyoko comes face to face with Kiku – who I still think is a manipulative creep – but I am intrigued by how things played out. Will Kiko remain a threat or will there be someone new who comes in to play? 4 out of 5.

While on the school trip, Ko’s classmate Saki is attacked by Haruka, a vampire, and Ko goes to rescue her. Meanwhile, Mahiru makes the final preparations before Kiku turns him.

With Haruka added to the roster, we’ve got a lot of characters and a web of connections between Kiku and Nazuna’s mother. And since the entire point of this trip was to find Mahiru, we got some time with him and Kiku along with some insight into Kiku’s motivations. No spoilers but I’m uncertain about how I feel about what was presented as an explanation but maybe more will be added later to justify to me the ruin Kiku has left in her wake. 3.9 out of 5.

As Ko’s power grows so does the threat to him and Nazuna as the object capable of killing her is finally discovered.

Kiku’s possible endgame in all this pales in comparison to what’s going on with Ko, in my opinion. I do want a resolution to whatever Kiku is doing but the entire cast is baffled as to why and how Ko is changing the way he is and is massive strength. So far, his scary moments are confined to when he’s fighting so we’ll have to keep going to find out the details. As for Kiku, she’s just the right amount of flippant, manipulative, and dangerous to be interesting up to this point but I’d like her story to make more movement forward. Other than that, this was an action-packed volume with not much downtime and gives us a lot of information. 4.9 out of 5.

As Ko considers his options concerning his best friend and Kiku, another vampire Kiku had turned showed up as well as a vampire woman looking to clean up Kiku’s mess.

This volume is fast paced, throwing out a lot of action and information. It can feel a little like this volume is about to do an info dump but it goes right back into some awesome vampire battles. Ko is developing into a very interesting character and I can’t wait to see what he can really do from here on out. 4.8 out of 5.

Uguisu is on the trail of a very old vampire named Kiku Hoshimi, who is known for turning humans and abandoning them. She enlists Ko and Nazuna for help but Ko has some strange things going on with his body.

I am beginning to see how Uguisu fits into the cast now and I’m warming up to her. It was still jarring for her to go from major threat to part of the main group so quickly but now, we have Kiku. Whatever Kiku is up to is messed up but what I’m really interested in is what’s going on with Ko. It makes the story so much more interesting than him just becoming a vampire. It makes me want more. 4 out of 5.

Ko and Nazuna have their final showdown with Kyoko, the vampire hunter.

The vampire hunter arc comes to an end and I’m mixed about adding the hunter as a permanent addition to the cast. It was written well but Kyoko did a lot of damage and it’s clear her story is far from over. This is taking some intriguing turns and I like how it’s all coming together. They keep the story going in an entertaining way. 4 out of 5.

A group of children believe they ate the last survivors on the planet and they are vampires. They were told to wait until come others return but it’s been many years. Thinking they’re alone, they are shocked to learn some humans still exist; humans they were told to promise never to eat.

This is a taste of a larger story that sets up a lot of information in a creative way without a bunch of info dumps. The art for this story is fitting, the slightly muted colors bringing out the red of the blood, but it feels lacking. It’s very short and predictable if you’ve ever read any other story like this but it’s not bad. 3.5 out of 5.
