Writing Update!

If you haunt my site, every so often I’ll post a coming soon link. Be on the look out because these ‘coming soons’ will be here quick!

Also, I am starting off the year better than I’d hoped. I have no clue why, but I’ve started selling pretty decently in the UK. Hey, I’m not complaining; just noticing.

So despite Mercury being in retrograde (apparently, I am loathed by fax machines) things are starting off this year with a bang and I am super excited to see what happens next!

August Writing Update

Ever get one of those chapters where you just can’t seem to figure out what to do? You’ve basically written yourself into a corner? That’s how I spent the first half of the month. It was driving me crazy!

But the last week and a half or so have been much better. Despite dealing with the back to school rush (why the heck do you wait till the last week of summer break to START mailing out class and supply information!!!???) I have been working at a steady clip. In fact, I’ve freaked out people because I’m cackling as I’m working… Probably not a good sign. Or is it a good sign? Well, my characters may not think so.

Anyway, this month’s work hasn’t been steady but it’s been good. I also have two more reviews under my belt and another on deck.

I’m pondering a speed reading course… Seriously.

So, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! πŸ˜€ Take a breather, then get ready for Fall!

Between my kiddo’s birthday, her graduation from 1st grade, and prepping for camp, it’s all I can do to get to bed before I fall asleep. :p The beginning of summer is always like this but I do have some posts in the works including May’s Birchbox and June’s, as well as the writing I’ve gotten done so far. I also have weight loss updates, which are baffling even to me.

Book reviews, as well. Those are FLYING in. @_@

It’s a wonder I have time to sit down!

Brief Writing Update!

I will be honest, I didn’t do much writing during last week. Not only is it hard to write with my kiddo underfoot, I didn’t really want to. We had drawing time together but this was a rare chance to have uninhibited time with her and I took it. But the weekend! Ahh, the weekend.

I’d expected to babysit my nieces but it fell through and kiddo was at her dad’s. I had a free Saturday night… FREE!!!

Me being me, I was a selfish bitch and used my Saturday night to do nothing but write, write, take a nice bath, dye my hair, then write some more. And, holy gods, was it ever worth it! I was so jazzed, I continued into Sunday afternoon. I did another chapter of Lost Brother and did some amazing work with Old Soldier. What I really should have done was some typing but once I had that pen in my hand, I was FLYIN! And it was pure inspiration, not the determined scribbles of someone who refuses to let her page goal go unfulfilled. Those of you out there who create will get the difference. πŸ˜‰

I love that feeling and I hope to keep it up. πŸ™‚ Eventually, I will have to nut up and do some typing. I don’t want to end up with the daunting task of typing hundreds of pages rather than just 20 or so (and Old Soldier has been a rare, direct-to-computer project). But as long as my muse has this love affair with pen and paper, I’m going to write. And it feels GREAT!

Friday Week in Review

Things have been going pretty well on the promotion front these days. It’s not much but I still see my writing as a way to make a decent sized side income. What is a trickle today may be a flood tomorrow so I’m not giving up. If anything, I’m working harder and being more diligent about meeting my goals and polishing my craft. One of the tools I picked up to help me out (because I’m concerned about copycats) is Grammarly’sΒ online plagiarismΒ and grammar tool because I’m awesome enough to do all this other stuff, but can’t remember how to properly use a comma to save my life.

This week I have finished one more chapter of First Brood 3 and picked at a few submission calls that I have floating around. My main focus has been to get my finances in order and get debt free. I’m a pretty responsible person so my credit debt is nil but I still have the car loan and the mortgage. Once my car loan is paid off, I can throw that money on the mortgage. πŸ™‚ And of course the sales of my books go towards that, as well. (hint hint, nudge nudge)

Next week is Winter Break and being a good mama, I’ve taken my vacation with my daughter. I’ve got plans to get crafty so be prepared to laugh at my attempts to make homemade lip balm and teach my 6 year old to knit.

Writer Wednesday – Writing Update

Remember waaaaayyy back when I was doing Fiction Friday and posting Winter Boot? Remember when I kept meaning to finish it and getting distracted by various shiny objects? Well, no more delays! Winter Boot has a complete written draft now! πŸ˜€

Once I get it typed up and edited, it will be posted on Fiction Friday again. πŸ™‚ When it’s complete, another short story will take it’s place. I’m not sure what the next short will be but I have had a horror story percolating in my brain for awhile. The other ones I have in progress are erotica submission calls I didn’t finish in time but I still have the cool story. Those are too smutty to put in the blog. They’ll go direct to sale when complete. ^__^

I know the year is still young but I’ve been doing amazing with my daily goals. So much so that I’ve increased my page goal from 4 to 5 pages daily. If I can keep this up? Expect my Amazon Author Page to be bursting with titles. πŸ™‚

Writing Update

As of right now, I’m about halfway to my goal of 5 pages a day. Not bad at all I must say! πŸ˜€

The pages go as follows:

  • 1.5 pages in Winter Boot
  • 1 page Lost Brother

And I’ve made a significant dent in my read through of Flowers in the Attic as I am preparing another book vs movie comparison for the new special airing on the 18th. I remember watching the original as a kid and it was one of those childhood moments where you’re a little pissed at your parents for letting you watch it because it’s a bit scarring.

And the day’s not done yet! πŸ˜€ I plan to do as much as I can.

This Year’s Challenge

On this lovely snowday, I unveil my challenge for 2014. It’s an old one and I’ve done it before but for the volume of writing I hope to accomplish this year; a daily goal is a must.

1000 words a day equals out to roughly 5 written pages; depending on how messy my handwriting is that day. It’s a pain considering I am probably one of the few writers on the planet who still writes on paper before typing but I can try to meet and exceed this goal regardless. πŸ™‚

I hope everyone is recovered from all the rip-roaring parties. ;D

I’ve been thinking about what I want accomplished this year and I’ve decided I’m really going to make this year my own. No whining, no excuses… Well, maybe a little bitching but no excuses. I want to finish one short story every month and have book three done by the end of the year. I also wanna lose 10 pounds, which pretty much puts me on an even keel with every other person in the world. πŸ˜‰

With that in mind, I am off to work! Looking forward to this year. I know it will be better than the last. πŸ˜‰

Thinking about the new year…

Though this month has been crazy busy (I didn’t even do my usual makeup posts!) I’m already plotting how I can make the most of next year, writing wise.

First off; no reading challenge. Oh, I’ll be reading but no stressing about numbers. I have enough to stress about.

Secondly, I am going to try and finish the third book in The Brood series before the end of 2014; finish one short project a month, and do weekly book reviews of some sort over and O&G. I’m a little annoyed with myself that more writing isn’t happening and that my project list never seems to get shorter. So, I’m gonna blast through that list and hopefully get a ton more stories out there for you guys. πŸ™‚

This year was pretty successful so I’m gonna top myself next year! πŸ˜€
