Lenni Reviews: “Like a Butterfly” Vol. 2, by Suu Morishita

Suiren’s feelings for Taichi continue to grow while Taichi still doesn’t want to be bothered with dating and all its distractions; including Koharu who is determined to get Taichi to like her before the summer is over.

This volume is mostly set up to get the pieces in place for Suiren and Taichi to go see fireworks together. Their shyness is endearing and really sweet but I have to say there’s a lot of waffle in this. Part of me was hoping they’d hurry up and get to the point. The back and forth is going to get tedious if it continues like this. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl” Vol. 3, by Azusa Banjo

While Mido already realizes how cute Hiura is, Hiura is only now realizing his feelings for Mido and is hiding them.

This series is keeping its cute tone and teasing us with Mido and Hiura getting together; which this is clearly heading towards. I’m enjoying a lot of this but watching Hiura just be happy exploring how he wants to express himself is the best part. Real life sucks so, I like this world where everyone is accepting so Hiura has this chance to enjoy his euphoria. Fingers crossed the real world can be this way, too. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Run on Your New Legs” Vol. 5, by Wataru Midori

School is back in session and Kikuzato can’t wait to get back to running and testing his new prosthesis. As he prepares for another race, Kikuzato wonders what his motivations are for running and has hopes of reconciling with his old friend from the soccer team, Take.

I love the progress Kikuzato is making; both with his training and as a character. His parents are supportive, his friends are great, and we’ve even got a classic rival, Dojima, who is absolutely a dick. The art style shines when the characters are engaging in their chosen athletics and the story does a great job being informative about parathletes and what goes into these competitions. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Lovesick” by Luana Vecchio

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Trigger warning for nudity, sex, and gore. 18+

Domino is a popular dominatrix on the dark web red rooms but her infamy puts a target on her back and the demented little world she’s created may fall apart, robbing her of her ultimate dream: to be cannibalized.

This is a fucking brutal ride. It’s the type of media that I struggle to say I liked or enjoyed it, due to the content but I couldn’t stop reading it. The whole thing is about people who get off on the thought of being killed and eaten and the people who organize events to make that happen so they can consume human flesh. Content warning for blood, guts, sex, violence, maybe grooming… Just don’t read it if anything about killing and eating people triggers you. The art has a perverse beauty to it at times and does not shy away from the visceral details of the subject matter. 4 out of 5.

Soramori is enjoying spending time with Takebe but is hoping for more intimacy, unsure of how to bring up the subject. Meanwhile, Takebe isn’t sure if her feelings and Soramori’s are the same.

This is a great last installment for the series. It addresses the issues they’ve been having and in a natural way that’s really sweet. In the end, you feel happy for them and it’s looking like they will have a happy future. 4 out of 5.

While Takebe is determined to leave her past self behind, Soramori doesn’t want her to change, frustrating Takebe who feels she is not getting the support she needs to accomplish her goal of becoming a “normal” adult.

I can see Takebe getting frustrated because a big part of her character is that she wants to be a functioning adult instead of an angry teenager who brawls all the time. It was a reach for me for it to cause such a falling out. It was funny to see it all come full circle as they have a fistfight about it rather than talking it out but this volume was just okay. 3 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead” Vol. 11 by Haro Aso & Kōtarō Takata

The group goes on a pilgrimage to visit 88 temples in order to cross that off of Akira’s bucket list. Along the way, Beatix is captured by thieves and the rest rush to save her. After that adventure, the group ends up on a yacht full of rich people who only want to party.

Sometimes it feels a little forced when they have to deal with the zombies. I get they have to since that’s the entire point but it’s getting predictable. I still enjoy our group but cramming in zombie attacks feels formulaic this time around. 3.7 out of 5.

In this volume, the group continues their trip, enjoying their time at an amusement park. The day culminates in Natsuki and Anna ending up alone on the Ferris wheel.

This was cute but meandering. They’re all having a good time at the park, there are some silly shenanigans, they tell an entertaining ghost story but even for a slice of life, this wasn’t very engrossing. 3 out of 5.

Today’s Workout: Poor Brunswick…

wp-1682547799740

Well, this mission was kind of a downer. I won’t spoil it but yeah, was sad. Either way, I still managed to run the full 10 minute intervals without taking any extra breaks. I kept reminding myself that during lockdown, I was doing c210k and did 20 minute intervals so 10 shouldn’t be an issue and I shouldn’t give up. I’m not sure if I’ll do the 10k training again because the workouts are really fucking long as the you go through the plan and that was easy to do during lockdown because if I had a webinar or something, I could throw on my headphones and be on the treadmill at the same time. Between single mom things and my side hustle things, I don’t have time for workouts that are an hour or more. Maybe if more of my books are selling and my adsense goes up but for now, that’s not in the cards.

For lunch I did the beef and steamed veggies again. I think after I’m out of the ramen noodles, I won’t buy anymore to cut down on some carbs.

Dinner had to be lighter to balance out lunch. I still have some lamb left but I’ll eat that another day. That’s romaine, scallions, and avocado with tuna. I finally remembered to plant the butts of the veggies to grow my own and try and save some money. Lettuce of various types, onions, and scallions are the most popular in my house and it would be amazing for my budget to have them on hand in the garden containers. I would like to try some cucumbers and tomatoes but, we’ll see what I have time for.

Today’s Workout: I still don’t like pushups

wp-1682470230573

And I’m sure they dislike me as much. Either way, I know I’m gonna feel this tomorrow. I’m not at the point where I can get on the floor and do them but I still feel my muscles working when I to wall pushups. I also decided to throw in 50 squats and 50 crunches after this to work those muscles and make more progress toning up.

For lunch, I packed some of the leftovers from yesterday and learned a lesson: don’t put naan in the microwave. I didn’t want to break a tooth on it afterwards. I still have some lamb left so, you’ll probably see it in another meal soon. For dinner, I had some leftover fries from the weekend and just ate that. I wasn’t super hungry and didn’t wanna push it. Unfortunately, I didn’t take many steps so, I think it was a good idea to keep it light for the day. I’m still stuck around 203-204 but if I keep this up, I’m sure I’ll finally get under 200 soon.
