Tokinaga is still stuck as a dog but after he finds a way to escape, Wauke attacks the Anti-God institute to try and convince Waka to turn on them.

This is batshit insane. Tokinaga’s time travel abilities make things interesting, especially since others know about it or sus him out. It’s not used as a Deus ex Machina but as an additional tool for the Anti-God Institute. The fights are wild, but a lot of implications are still brewing by the end of it that I’m dying to find out more about. That’s fine, it’s keeping me involved and I’m having so much fun reading this. 4 out of 5.

Tokinaga talks with Toda, who was with the Ahf-Azu but now wants to leave the group and save his sisters from being used by the terrorists.

The experiments on Orokapi – who is inside Akio – are super interesting, and the role of the IPO’s? Awesome. This volume drops a ton of info, and it’s really cool. I love a good lore dump/plot-heavy volume. I do worry that too many moving parts are happening: Toda’s sisters, whatever Tokinaga is doing, IPOs melting, the dog backpacks

Yes, really….

I do enjoy the wimsy randomly thrown in here and there. This is a very unique story so far. 3.9 out of 5.

Tokinaga is ordered back after making a deal with Alura to save Waka’s life.

Waka and Tokinaga also go on a date, and it turns out as well as anything does in this comic. Is it me, or is all this getting too complicated? There are so many people keeping so many secrets from all these different people, there are like three plot threads going on, I feel like I need a series rundown to organize everything for me. It’s hard to describe without spoiling a bunch of stuff. I’m probably gonna have to go back and re-read this. 3 out of 5.

After Waka was kidnapped by Volov – who is demanding something from Alura – she attempts to escape only for Alura to awaken against Waka’s will.

Alura’s design is amazing. A real eldritch nightmare and gave me a real feeling of wrong, and is so very disconcerting. Overall, the volume is WILD but also sad. A LOT of plot points happen, and it balances the serious moments with some wackiness very well. It’s a total package, showcasing the best of this series: the horror, the action, great characters, and some amazing art. I honestly didn’t see things going the way they are and it’s been so much fun to read. 5 out of 5.

Tokinaga has negotiated a treaty with the snake god, but Alura, the god inside Waka, is not in control of the transformation and is training to be of use to the Anti God Research Institute.

Waka can’t catch a break. She agrees to knuckle down and train to control Alura? Gets kidnapped instead. Again. Alura is so much trouble, even other gods are after both of them. I still feel like things are being set up for some larger plotlines later; like a cult, different kids with powers, sentient parasitic candy… All absolute madness, and I find it very intriguing! 4 out of 5.

Waka has to deal with her vow to slay the gods and the fact one is living inside her.

It’s probably just me but this volume turned the crazy up to 11. What was an interesting premise seems to have gone off the rails; the gods are squabbling, people getting kidnapped right and left, trying to have the goofy personalities alongside bloody violence and body horror, there’s what I feel like is a big lore dump… It’s not bad per se it’s just… What? None of this is turning out how I’d expected and I’m confused but also entertained. 4 out of 5.

Just as Waka learns what god is inside her (Alura), things change when a mission ends in the deaths of several Institute members. In the chaos, a traitor is revealed.

This is a very twisty volume and by that I mean it has a bunch of twists in it. Not to spoil anything but there’s a lot of “this guy is really working for THIS guy” and “this guy is disguised as THIS guy” or this guy is dead, NOPE he’s not!” It’s not bad; it feels fast-paced and dripping with dramatic intrigue. If you’ve been waiting for a bunch of lore about Waka and Alura, that takes a back seat for a bit but it’s still action-packed. 4 out of 5.

Now that Waka is at the Research Institute, They begin to test the abilities of the entity inside her.

So, the thing inside Waka is a god named Alura and has been imprisoned by the other gods in Waka’s body which is why the other gods are after Waka and Alura… Or many just after Alura? We’ll see. They’re being cryptic about what’s so great about Alura that everyone’s after Waka. The wild shit was what happened with Shion! I won’t spoil anything but WOW. Alura’s kind of a dick. Well, a lot of the gods and “blessed” humans are dicks. I like this series but this volume felt all over the place. I do love the way the gods are drawn. Very other worldly and Lovecraftian. 3 out of 5.

In this world, strange creatures that have been named “gods” came from the sea and the areas where they exist have been blocked off as danger zones. Waka frequents one such zone in search of her friend who had been taken by a god and happens to meet Tokinaga; a researcher for the Anti-God Science Institute as well as a deranged Uzuki, who is recruiting followers to her god.

This volume hits the ground running and gets through a lot of world-building and lore in less than 200 pages. It’s full of twists and turns, deep character moments, it’s a LOT for one volume but it’s decent. The art for the gods is unique and grotesquely beautiful with amazing details. There is some gross body horror that will make you cringe since the art style supports it so well. We do have a comic relief-ish cat character, Nyababa, who I hope is used sparingly. I give this a tentative 3 out of 5 since the fast pace makes me nervous for the future volumes.
