The group heads to Kagoshima where they visit the headquarters of Space W and their president, Ukaji; who is still working on his dream to send humanity to the stars even in the throws of a zombie apocalypse.

Well, this whole thing is just a wacky way to get our gang into space and have a Space X parody. The zombies are peppered in as a threat but overall, I found this goofy and didn’t take it seriously. I do like the drips of lore we’re getting and while the company parody is there, Ukaji isn’t an Elon Musk stand-in. Ukaji is inspiring and again, a bit goofy. It’s all fun but like candy it’s sweet but not a meal. 3 out of 5.

As Ivy’s existence highlights very reasonable debates over transfloration, Kamiya and Hourai look into who is behind the anti-transfloration protests: Dr. Koudai.

While we get a funny story involving Kanaero hunting for a special goldfish, the cracks in the system are widening and it’s looking like this mysterious doctor is gonna make things very dangerous for the transfloration company. This may not be such a bad thing since the way people are being taken advantage of is horrific. It’s not sustainable. Why the doctor has been absent for 40 years, why he helped create a murderous plant, how all this will shake out morally for Kamiya and Hourai as their jobs are on the line will all remain to be seen. I can feel things ramping up and it’s all very interesting. 4 out of 5.

Haruka tried to convince Ko not to bind himself to Nazuna and as neither her no Ko want to hurty each other, they decide to spend one last night together.

The ending is so bittersweet. I was hoping for more of what made Ko so different from other humans in the process of becoming a vampire, since it seemed everyone around them was so surprised by his abilities and wondering about Nazuna’s status as a born vampire had an influence on those abilities. However, this is more about how love can affect these relationships and the deep bond Ko and Nazuna share. I wouldn’t mind some stories with them but I’ll take what I’m given with our main two finding some sort of balance. 4 out of 5.

Monroe is still obsessed with finding Satoru and Marin as its intelligence grows along with its body count.

I was a little shocked by the gruesome violence taking place right off the bat. Again, Monroe has no care for human life and Marin is NOT okay. I get some major Akira vibes (the original dub, not the remake) because while the anime kept a focus on the supernatural/psychic parts, the manga went off on many other tangents. None of this ever goes where I think it’s going and I am very uncomfortable with Marin’s consistant suffering. This poor girl… Satoru doesn’t have to deal with molestery shit. Heck, he’s barely in this volume. 3 out of 5.

This volume has our secret couple Nanoha and Chidori going on their first beach trip with their friends as well as introducing Igarashi; Chidori’s first love that broke her heart.

It’s interesting to see how f/f relationships are seen in Japan. I remember reading/watching somewhere that these little intimacies are seen as cutesy things you grow out of as life gets “serious,” then you go on to have a family. My mother believed something similar. It was so fucking sweet to see Nanoha put her foot down and say Chidori is her girlfriend. They’re still a secret to their friends but this isn’t a passing thing for them. While this isn’t a flash forward 20 years in the future to see they’re still together for a real confirmation but I’ll take it. They are so damn adorable. 3.5 out of 5.

Ken and Ryu arrive in Sava where 3 brothers squabble for the throne of their dying father, King Asam.

While after the 3 brother’s drama there is another story, the stand out here is King Asam. Unlike a lot of the rulers and/or in this series, he’s powerful, empathetic, and loving instead of comically evil. I wouldn’t mind a side series just about him. I’m a little annoyed that his daughter doesn’t get more regocnition as she’d the one child of his that seems to care about him (at first) and – absolutely spoilers for this volume and the movie – this story suffers from the Four Brothers problem (where I was pissed that one of them died leaving only three brothers). You’d expect the life lesson of them working things out between them but nope. They just fight and kill. It felt like a chance for a good story there. 3 out of 5.

Chen Xing is the last Great Exorcist who is fated to die on his 20th birthday. He is searching for his fated counterpart to save the world before that happens and meets Xiang Su about to be executed for a crime he didn’t commit.

This feels all over the place but not in a really bad way. It’s based on a novel and I think what’s happening is the parts of the novel that would work best in this new format are what’s included so it affects the pacing a bit. I had no problem rolling with it but this is an interesting fantasy that will tickle your BL itch as it’s focused on the fantasy story not tossing these two into bed right away. 3.7 out of 5.

Due to the restrictions placed on their relationship, Keiichiro is planning something special for Yuri’s birthday; a three day trip to Kyoto.

I love how Keiichiro throws himself into things wholeheartedly. Yuri’s struggling with a class? He organized a whole damn curriculum to help her. He wants to have an overnight trip within the constraints of his family’s rules? He makes that shit happen. Bless that young man because he just wants to do his best and do right by the love of his life. The comedy isn’t bad, but it’s mostly all about Keiichiro being a sweetheart. 3.5 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Cute but Not Cute” by Senmu Sakishita

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review and is rated 18+

Keiichi Hozumi is a success in his company; he’s popular; seemingly having it all. But deep down, he’s lonely. He can’t sleep unless there’s a girl in his bed with him, but one drunken night, he proposes a threesome with his secretary Ibuki; who has feelings for his boss.

Keiichi is the silly one while Ibuki is the stern one but I don’t like how often Keiichi gets drunk and sleeps with Ibuki then doesn’t remember what happened in the morning. But the title is an accurate assessment of how I felt by the end of this. The couple can be cute but also kinda not. I don’t really like them. Keiichi is pushy and Ibuki should tell his love interest to be with him when he’s sober. I had trouble caring if they got together by the end. It’s very explicit but I can’t even enjoy that since the consent is so iffy given the amount of alcohol. 2 out of 5.

Sae decides to get over her crush on Koki since she knows he has feelings for someone. It sounds easy, but they still have to spend time together.

Sae may have decided to temper her feelings and support Koki with his crush, but they’re in the same class. As such, this volume is just that: various situations in which they are forced to work together. It happens over and over for all of it. It feels like no progress is made for either of them. It’s meandering through each encounter they have, and while Sae may say things are going to be different, that doesn’t happen. A little disappointing. 3 out of 5.
