Mythical creatures are now mainstream and integrated with human society. Yutaka Shinso wants to get to know more of them so, he transfers to a more mixed school where he meets Tsumiki Ogami, a werewolf who inspires him to become as confident as she is.

This is a fun little high school fantasy. We don’t go into many different creatures as the main focus is on Tsumiki and her friendship with Yutaka. It’s still just the first volume so, it’s very slice of life but it’s very sweet. A light read with some comedy and heartfelt moments that made me smile. 3.7 out of 5 for the good start.

Waka has to deal with her vow to slay the gods and the fact one is living inside her. 

It’s probably just me but this volume turned the crazy up to 11. What was an interesting premise seems to have gone off the rails; the gods are squabbling, people getting kidnapped right and left, trying to have the goofy personalities alongside bloody violence and body horror, there’s what I feel like is a big lore dump… It’s not bad per se it’s just… What? None of this is turning out how I’d expected and I’m confused but also entertained. 4 out of 5.

Chihiro is after the enchanted blade, Shinuchi, which is up for auction at The Rakuzaichi, a black market held by powerful underworld figures: The Sazanami Clan.

I wish this volume was longer because Chihiro is so damn interesting. I love seeing what he comes up with to solve his problems. No spoilers but the more he does with his powers, the more I want to see him explore and use them in battle. It’s so creative and I can’t wait to see what happens next. There’s a bit of levity but Chichiro is very much about his business and the forces he’s facing are nothing to understimate. 4 out of 5.

Palma Shishinegura proves to be helpful to the Yamato Mori by getting information from a dead drug dealer and they push her abilities to the limit in order to get the opium source.

While Tokio takes Ely and Palma with him to the poppy fields, he has some real doubts about the prophecy and I wonder if this will lead to a betrayal of some kind. The prophecy may be bullshit but that doesn’t matter if people are willing to kill and die for it. I also love that Palma is part of the group now. Her abilities have fantastic potential and she’s just a sweetheart, There are some awesome fights in this as well so, this volume is a total package. 4.5 out of 5.

Haruka tried to convince Ko not to bind himself to Nazuna and as neither her no Ko want to hurty each other, they decide to spend one last night together.

The ending is so bittersweet. I was hoping for more of what made Ko so different from other humans in the process of becoming a vampire, since it seemed everyone around them was so surprised by his abilities and wondering about Nazuna’s status as a born vampire had an influence on those abilities. However, this is more about how love can affect these relationships and the deep bond Ko and Nazuna share. I wouldn’t mind some stories with them but I’ll take what I’m given with our main two finding some sort of balance. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “The Concierge At Hokkyoku Department Store” Vol. 1, by Tsuchika Nishimura

Akino is starting her new job at the Hokkyoku Department Store, where some of the guests are animals. Since each animal is so different, Akino must navigate their unique needs and wants.

While personally having someone constantly trying to help me in a store is a fucking nightmare (just let me get my stuff and leave with as little human interaction as possible) this comic is a cozy read with low stakes and an earnest main character. She reminds me of Suma from “Dinosaur Sanctuary” with how hard she’s trying and how much doing a good job means to her. How Akino solves each issue can mean some mild info-dump situations talking about the animal species in detail, but these parts aren’t too long and do factor into how events play out. 3.7 out of 5.

The task force is on Black Rock Island and Suchan exhibits abilites that give the big wigs at Nest some huge concerns.

This volume doesn’t have much downtime. It goes right from Black Rock to some precarious midterms, to the attack on Nest. Again, the abilities presented are so creative and amazing to look at. The names of some of the moves are delightfully cheezy and fun and again, this colume moves so damn fast. Even when it does a flashback, it’s action-packed. Once they’re all out, this would be such an easy series to binge. 4 out of 5.

The Hishaku, who are the ones who killed Chihiro’s father, have captured Char and Chihiro goes to rescue her before they can use her unique abilities for evil.

This volume focuses on defeating Genichi Sojo, who possesses the Cloud Gouger blade. They have one heck of a battle and it’s fantastically done. They fit in a lot of lore about the weapons while the actions takes place. There isn’t a chunk of exposition when it comes to back story or the sword’s powers. I’m also glad we get to see more of Chihiro’s father in the flashbacks. He’s got a fun personality and balances out his very stoic son. 4 out of 5.

As Elizabeth searches for Keijii and Keisuke’s father, the brothers deal with the monster, Hikari, who’s goal is to goad Keiji into using The Righteous Egg and awaken powers that may destroy him.

The White Demon is behind all this and as to what he wants with Keiji, we’ll have to see. The Battle was well done and what was inflicted on Hikari was just monstrous; no pun intended. There are some silly pits but this volume brings the seriousness through the silly concept of super-powered chickens fighting demons; which is what made me love this series in the first place. 4 out of 5.

As the investigation of The Market continues, Palma Shishinegura (a choujin who can reanimate corpses) is captured by the Yamato Mori. Azuma and Tokio had very different feelings about being in the group and how their friendship will be affected by it.

This volume is kinda doofy. Not in a bad way but a lot of the throwaway bad guys are not to be taken seriously at all. While some plot does happen, this feels a little silly when they’re supposed be doing this important investigation so I got a bit of a feeling that this was filler. I do like that we may get more of Palma. Her powers are very cool and unique for what is essentially a necromancer. 3.5 out of 5.
