It’s been a long time since Makoto summoned a demon to indulge in his fetish for eating demon guts. Now, Makoto is a demon himself residing in hell trying to discover the true name of the demon he granted his wish and destroy him.

J, the demon, always seems a step ahead of Makoto’s plans but allows whatever schemes he concocts to play out so we learn more about J’s past. I did not expect this to end the way it did but it’s really interesting. There isn’t much smut, it’s more about Makoto trying to overcome J. It was intriguing to see Makoto go from this mousy weak little freak to a powerful demon on par with J, the most powerful of his kind. This is not one of those fluffy stories were the love of a human touches the demon’s heart and they ride off into Hell’s happily ever after. This is dark and conniving. It’s not super graphic but it is not for romantics. 4 out of 5.

After Nozue allowed Togawa to open his experiences to fun as well as romance, their relationship is running into issues with intimacy and the fear of someone at work finding out about their relationship.

This volume handles a lot of emotional work on their relationship so if you’re looking for just smut after the first volume, you’ll have to wade through a bit of angst to get to the sweet and spicy parts. The smutty bits aren’t super detailed but they get the point across enough to make this for mature readers. They’re an odd couple but they work together and if you’re looking for yaoi with an older character (not that 39 is old) this isn’t half bad. 3 out of 5.

When once they were ‘friends’ with benefits, Megumi and Tsugumi are an official couple. But a possible rival, Inami, takes an interest in Tsugumi’s strength and is a clear threat to Megumi. There’s also the problem of Megumi’s father and his negative opinion of omegas.

I figured a rival alpha would be the next step this manga took since our main couple is established. Unless some other contrivance comes along but Tsugumi is so derpily earnest that I don’t think a lot of the miscommunication romantic tropes will be believable. Also, Tsugumi’s dads are hilarious and adorable; both in the main story and in their little side stories. 3.9 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “My Love Mix-Up!” Vol. 7, by Wataru Hinekure & Aruko

As high school nears its end, Aoki puts more effort into being involved and supportive of Ida, who wants to go away to college.

I like this volume but I am wondering if we will get more progression as these stories play out. The young relationships are moving forward but it’s a little slow to read. At least Aoki and Ida are fun to read. We get the classic ‘only one bed in the hotel room’ plotline. Akkun and Hashimoto are a nice counterpoint to the others. It’s all sweet and worth reading if you’re looking for some YA romance. 4 out of 5.

Chiharu Izunome returns to his home town in order to try and work through his writer’s block. He encounters a strange man at the train station who claims to be waiting for his bride. Chiharu’s life turns upside down when this bride turns out to be him.

Chiharu’s more realistic personality is the perfect foil to the dragon, Rin, and his idealistic energy. It gives this manga some great humor but still has space for the serious moments. It’s just plain fun to read and I can’t wait for the next one. While it’s rated explicit, there wasn’t much in the way of smut in this volume. The main point is for Rin and Chiharu to get to know each other and set up the conflict for the next volume. 4.9 out of 5.

Himaru is just starting high school and is pretty naïve about how his own body works. So when he starts having a problem with wet dreams, he askes his friend, Gaku, what the heck is going on. Gaku offers to teach Himaru about these things and their experimentation begins to turn into something more.

Again, I HAD to reimagine these characters as adults because they are 15 and it makes me so uncomfortable to see the explicit scenes, of which there are plenty. I get it’s a different country and I won’t even pretend at 15 I didn’t know damn well my peers were sexually active and managing to get their hands on smut if they wanted but still.

Himaru is funny and his interactions with Gaku are great; only surpassed by his mother and sister. I like the general vibe of this comic. Himaru is the type to just say whatever he wants, since he doesn’t know how to be discreet because nobody ever taught him and it plays off well with Gaku as he becomes more honest with himself. They have a great dynamic and are sweet together. 4 out of 5.

This LGBTQ+ anthology features different romance stories across the LGBTQ+ perspective. I love the idea and the various art styles are gorgeous but I honestly wish there was more. A lot of emotion is packed into these shorts but some could have benefitted from more length. But it’s not a crime for a story or stories to be so good, you wish you could spend more time with it. You have self-acceptance, transitions, POC, and a whole lot of heart. In case it triggers you, there are some instances of homophobia, religious judgement, and transphobia. If collections like this are your jam, I’d absolutely check this out. 3.9 out of 5.
