Flame Con 2025

I’ve already posted a bit of my experience this year over at O&G (I should be posting there more often…), but I figured I’d talk about it a bit here, too. I can’t believe in the year of our Lord and Lady 2025, I feel the need to attend panels about fighting fascism, but here we are. It did get me thinking about digitizing some old stuff, like union pamphlets from back when my grandmother was fighting for the garment workers and old articles about her. We do need to preserve whatever we can; especially in the age of companies not bothering with physical media, claiming the rights to your digital media whenever they want (so you paid for it but don’t own it), or letting legacy media just die under the weight of relentless drive towards newer technology. But let’s not be a complete downer and take a look at what I brought home.

I had a lot of fun picking out random things to get and everything in that first picture is signed! I can’t tell you how much I nerd out about being able to get my stuff signed by the creator. Speaking of which:

I waited YEARS to get volume 5 of Starfighter simply because at a previous Flame Con, I’d gotten the first 4 and they were signed. I was tempted to just buy it online, but as they were generous to give me a press pass this year and Hamletmachine was going to be there, I was stoked to complete my collection. I probably embarrassed myself by squealing like an idiot, but I’m just some nobody, so she won’t remember.

I’m excited to dig into these and maybe review them for the blog. We’ll see. Sometimes I just like to read something and sit with it, but if there’s something here you want me to dive into, let me know.

Click any of the links below to check them out. Make sure the sale price is there since I don’t count on a bug free experience…

Lenni Reviews: “Love Nest 2nd” Vol. 2, by Yuu Minaduki

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

While still keeping their relationship a secret, Masato and Asahi take a trip during the holidays to see Masato’s mother; who introduces Asahi as his friend. While he believes that one day his mother will take the news well, Asahi’s past comes back to haunt him.

It’s understandable for Masato not to come out right away but yeah, his mom doesn’t seem the type to want anything more than for her son to be happy. There are a few bumps in the relationship; like Asahi’s concerns about having too many feels but it’s not heavy on the angst. It’s all things that are worked out with earnest conversations and a healthy sprinkling of smut to make a sweet story about two people slowly opening up more to each other. 4 out of 5.

August 2023 Writing Update

I am picking at the edits for the next Go Away Girls book that I’ve decided to settle on calling “Vanished” (unless I hit on something better in the editing process). There’s a bunch of stuff I put in the outline that didn’t make it into the first rough draft that I feel will make the story much better so, I’m working on ironing out what I did get down before I start including that stuff.

“Vanished” will be the third book in the series. You can check out the first one here or here (contains adult material, be 18+ to read), or check out a different one of my lesbian fantasy stories here, here, here, or here.

Hope you’ll check them out and I’ll hopefully be updating again soon!

Lenni Reviews: “Megumi & Tsugumi” Vol. 3, by Mitsuru Si

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review and is rated 18+

When once they were ‘friends’ with benefits, Megumi and Tsugumi are an official couple. But a possible rival, Inami, takes an interest in Tsugumi’s strength and is a clear threat to Megumi. There’s also the problem of Megumi’s father and his negative opinion of omegas.

I figured a rival alpha would be the next step this manga took since our main couple is established. Unless some other contrivance comes along but Tsugumi is so derpily earnest that I don’t think a lot of the miscommunication romantic tropes will be believable. Also, Tsugumi’s dads are hilarious and adorable; both in the main story and in their little side stories. 3.9 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat: Vol. 2, by Sakaomi Yuzaki

As they make plans to spend Christmas and New Year’s together, Nomato starts to realize her feelings for Kasuga are blossoming into more than just friendship.

Much like volume one, most of this is Kasuga enjoying what Nomato cooks. It’s soothing and it’s adorable to see them interacting. But seeing Nomato really think about her feelings and research what it all could mean was great representation. I also got one of me my wishes; more back story for Kasuga. But still no recipes for all the delicious food featured in the book. But, I like both characters and look forward to the next one. 4.7 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Dirty Deeds” by HelenKay Dimon

*This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review and it rated 18+.

Alec Drummond, a hard-assed billionaire, catches Gaige Owens trying to hack into his computers. After it is revealed Gaige is working for the government as it is suspected someone working for Alec may be tampering with the seed vault Alec meticulously runs. Rightfully suspicious of government monitoring, Alec agrees to let Gaige stay undercover for free access to investigate the tampering but Gaige will be under Alec’s consistent watch the entire time. And it doesn’t help that Gaige is exactly Alec’s type.

Gaige and Alec make an enjoyable couple and, like in Pathogen, they are smart, logical characters. Given the premise, it was nice to see such competency in a genre where it would be very easy to fluff your way to getting the pair in bed. Despite this, there are several places where more description was necessary and more subtlety was needed. I was able to guess who the villain was the second they were introduced and thus it made the rest of the book less suspenseful for me. All I ended up really caring about is how Alec and Gaige were going to work out their mistrust and get together. Their relationship is hot and sweet, the sex scenes are blush-worthy and don’t linger too long, but in the end, I can’t say this will leave much of an impact on me. I had fun reading it, though. 3 out of 5.
