This volume concludes Uichi and Akitora’s relationship in the flashback and returns to the present day; where they are both much more mature men. The ending is a perfect conclusion to the ride we go on through the series and it really feels earned. There’s plenty of spice for all of us naughty readers but also a great deal of sentiment. And I really like the way the art style adjusts between the younger and older characters. I’ll kinda miss this series but I’d go back and read it again. 4.7 out of 5.

When it’s time to pick a new king, eight remote islands send their best warriors to compete to decide who will ascend to the throne. The nature of the battle is they have sex and the first one to orgasm loses.

If you think I’m reading this based on the title alone, you’re absolutely correct. The story also includes Matthew and Harto. Harto travels away from his island into the wider world where he meets Matthew as a roommate in school. Harto wants Matthew to help him train for this competition and it turns into a more romantic relationship. In fact, there’s more to every match in the series so despite the clear gratuitous sex scenes in this series. There is some heart and some laughs here, too. If you’re looking for an explicit yaoi that also makes you laugh, this is a book to consider. 4 out of 5.

Shin, who is so reserved he is typically typecast as a bad guy, is getting closer with a veteran actor, Tatara, who he has admired for some time. Shige, Shin’s boyfriend, is filled with jealousy at this growing friendship but still has to keep his relationship with Shin a secret.

They synopsis made this volume sound more dramatic than it actually is. There’s a lot of feels and exploring the character’s hang ups and Shige and Shin navigating their relationship around their jobs. This volume wasn’t bad but I expected a huge drama that didn’t happen. It’s pretty chill, actually; so if you’re into heavy angst, this isn’t it. 3 out of 5.

In this world, alphas are at the top of society, betas live a comfortable life in the middle, but omegas are viewed as lesser than anyone else. Hana is usually assumed to be an alpha so he keeps his omega status a secret to avoid being forced to mate with anyone. Renjaku is an alpha and a regular customer at the café where Hana works and while Hana has a crush on him; Renjaku is a rude, demanding man who doesn’t believe in fated mates. But when Hana’s first heat comes, his cover is broken and Renjaku begrudgingly offers to help him.

And that help comes in explicit sex. This is an adult comic.

I thought this was going to be a typical alpha/omega story but then we have Hana’s brother drop in and my jaw dropped. I did NOT expect that. I can’t say I like this twist but it does give Renjaku added motivation to help Hanna other than the inevitable coming to terms with the idea of a fated mate. 3.5 out of 5.

In this sequel to Sayonara Game, Ito and Arimura are growing closer but Arimura wants Ito to move in with him.

This was cute but fleeting. I like the contrast between the stoic Ito and outgoing Arimura but having a third character, Hozumi, appear as an antagonist to interfere with them is really cliche. I am aware this is cliche for a reason but this seems particularly generic. It’s obvious the main couple is too devoted to be fooled by this person, if they even bother to deal with him at all. Fun but we’ve seen all this before. 3.7 out of 5.

Washimiya is an actor known for having a cold and standoffish attitude and his hiding the fact he is dating another actor, Shin. Washimiya is hesitant about the relationship due to how popular Shin is in contrast to how his aloof nature has typecast him into villain roles and he doesn’t want to ruin Shin’s reputation.

This is a cute start to a series. Shin is just the right amount of clueless about how to be in a relationship and the conflict unfolds naturally while giving the reader some smut to enjoy in the first volume. This isn’t overly explicit but you know what’s going on and leaves plenty to anticipate in volume 2. 4 out of 5.

Makoto has been working at Hell’s brothel for three years without a word from J. When he is randomly summoned, Makoto begins to apply his efforts in earnest to become a full fledged demon and destroy J.

This is a strange series but I’m kinda diggin it. Makoto isn’t a typical main character and is dynamic with J and the other demons he meets keep things interesting. There are conflicting emotions and desires and it’s getting pretty twisted. It’s rated mature for a reason, keep that in mind. 4 out of 5.

Yup, this is a two for one. Because for some reason, volume one and four were available as ARC copies, but not two and three. Makes sense… I had to read them in order so things make sense.

In these volumes, the band is prepping for their first live performance and finally picks a name: Given. We get more story time with Haruki and Akihiko; who have a bunch of drama aside for Uenoyama clearly having a crush on Mafuyu.

Uenoyama coming to terms with his feelings for Mafuyu and their interactions are adorable and the dynamic between Haruki and Akihiko is rife with angst and plot potential. I get great vibes off our four main leads and the way this is all written, you really want to see them succeed. 3.9 out of 5 for being interesting but bordering on overly dramatic.

Lenni Reviews: “Koimonogatari: Love Stories” Vol. 2 by Tohru Tagura

As Yoshinaga and Hasegawa become better friends, we get some more insight into what other LGBT kids go through in Japan when we meet Sakura, who got outed by his cousin; who continues to bully him and in this humble reviewer’s opinion, needs his throat punched for what he puts Sakura through.

This volume is an emotional rollercoaster. We have fake boyfriends, fake girlfriends, bullies, love confessions, and my main takeaway from it is that high school sucks ass and I don’t miss it one bit. I got called a dyke then being bi (and still now by guys who are salty I won’t mess with them) and it sucks to deal with when you barely know who you are and don’t have many friends.

It also sucks that Yoshinaga has to lie to protect himself but I give this book props for giving him a bunch of people who love and support him. That’s a relief. 4 out of 5.

Marleen is a piano player fixated on a man he calls “Lili” who frequents the bar where he plays. But Lili has a secret; he’s a werewolf. Lili and his people are desperately trying to stay under the radar but the Galland family is hunting them to sell their blood. When Lili’s instincts spin out of control, Marleen is more than willing to assist but Marleen has secrets of his own that could put Lili in danger.

This is everything I love in a paranormal romance; high stakes, forbidden love, and that sweet, sweet naughtiness. Lili and Marleen make a great couple and I love the modern day setting. It makes it that much more imperative for the wolves to be careful how they handle their conflict with the mob. I can’t wait to see where this series goes. A steamy and intriguing read, 4 out of 5.
