After being rejected by Keiichi, Nozomi thinks about what she should do next. Meanwhile, the boys reminisce about how they first met.

The story about how all the boys met is entertaining and much less frustrating Nozomi’s side of things. I like how she reflects on her past and wants to be different and improve herself but Keiichi is not the best guy. If that works out, I hope he’s not a jerk to her. This volume leans more towards the less interesting parts of slice of life. It’s okay but had trouble grabbing my attention. 3 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Mr. Villain’s Day Off” Vol. 2, by Yuu Morikawa

As The General has more little adventures on his days off, we also get to meet the Rangers, heroes who are in constant battle with the alien forces. 

So far, this series is a great palette cleanser in-between the action and horror I’ve been reading lately. I do wonder if this will stay similar to other slice of life manga or have a larger story line going forward. Also, a bit of a spoiler but I lost it when he started talking to a cat trying to recruit it to help them take over the planet. That would be hilarious if he actually succeeded and brought it back to his cohorts. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “My Name Is Shingo: The Perfect Edition” Vol. 1, by Kazuo Umezz

Satoru’s father works at a factory and when he hears from his dad that there will be a new robot there, he can’t help but what to investigate, learning how to use it and even adding some instructions of his own.

Until Satoru gets into tinkering with Marilyn (the name of the robot) he’s absolutely insufferable. I was concerned I would have to deal with this brat the entire volume but once he’s into programming and has something to focus on, he’s so much better. It’s interesting and a bit foreboding that the story infers this is the machine reflecting on past events; which makes me wonder what will happen once it becomes known that Satoru is messing with the machine. 3 out of 5.

The General is one of the leaders of an intergalactic Evil League whose goal is to destroy humanity for his home world. But even terrifying alien leaders need a day off.

This is a hilarious take on a slice of life manga;  having an alien interact with humans and our world in a casual-ish manner. I love how the art toys with The General’s casual and on duty design, it’s really funny. If you like Way of the House Husband, I think you’ll like this unique spin on a comedy. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Jungle Juice” Vol. 2 by Hyeong Eun & Juder

Suchan is now attending school at NEST after being mutated by the insecticide called Jungle Juice. His class is given the task of finding any remaining cans of it and in the process they come in conflict with a dangerous group looking to expand their membership willingly or not.

The character named “Breeder” exposed that I read too much trash because it took a minute for me to realize that it’s not a smut thing and it’s like a dog breeder. My brain is clearly ruined. On to the topic at hand, the way these characters use their abilities is really cool and the fight scenes are well choreographed and exciting. I like the conflicting group’s goals (very X-Men like) and I’m very curious to see what turns this will take and what will happen when whoever or whatever is behind Jungle Juice is revealed. 3.7 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Cat + Gamer” Vol. 3, by Wataru Nadatani

As Riko gets better at taking care of her cat, Musubi, she still has retained her love of gaming. When she gets a new game, she struggles to fit in time with that as well as work, rest, and Musubi’s nighttime zoomies.

Of course the kitten is precious but this volume feels more slice of live than the others, dealing with clipping Musubi’s nails, giving him a bath, and things like that. It’s cute to see a bit of Musubi’s perspective on things; especially when he’s gaming with Riko and trying to climb on things. They’re both settling in and Riko is learning about taking care of him while still doing what she loves. 3.9 out of 5.

Zackary May hires the Parker Girls to find out who’s behind the embezzlement of millions of dollars from his company from an offshore account but when his wife turns up dead, he haddn’t realized she was a Parker Girl. And Parker Girls protect their own.

I have a soft spot for Strangers in Paradise so it’s practically impossible for me to be overly critical of anything in this universe (despite some elements that admittedly have NOT aged well). Exploring what the Parker Girls are up to after the events of the main series is great to experience as a fan and it’s cool to read about. The characters are just as good as in the original and I like the idea of them taking down some smug billionaire who thinks he can do whatever he wants. It’s timely but not pandering or preachy. I would like more in the ending, especially with Cherry and Becky. I would love more about them. Also, if you haven’t read the original series, you will feel lost. 4 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Marriage Toxin” Vol. 1, by Joumyaku & Mizuki Yoda

Hikaru Gero is an assassin and poison master who is being forced by his family to produce an heir in order to prevent that fate for his sister; who has found true love with her girlfriend. While on a job, he encounters Mei Kinosaki, a marriage swindler and makes a deal with to get him married in exchange for saving Kinosaki. Now Kinosaki begins to train Hikaru to get a woman he can spend his life with.

This seems crazy with some quirky villains and a main pair that are funny together. What I really like about this is as hilarious as Mei and Hikaru are together, this manga does not let you forget that Hikaru is a dangerous assassin. It’s in the vein of SpyxFamily where there’s a lot of fun to be had but can still be serious when it needs to be. Not a bad start to a series. I see potential here. 3.5 out of 5.

Suiren and Kawasumi walk home together and as they spend more time with each other, Suiren is getting more confident. She’s more vocal in front of others and gaining more courage to do things like ask Kawasumi to meet up with her more often.

Kawasumi’s fumbling is so natural and completely in character. I like his gradual progress towards opening up more and getting closer to Suiren, It’s sweet and if you like stories of bumbling young love, this is a chill manga to read. 3.9 out of 5.

Misaki’s dream is to become a game designer and is working his hardest to learn and perfect his craft. However, Kaname seems to outclass him in every way effortlessly. When Kaname’s project gets erased and Misaki offers his help in restoring it, it gives them a chance to get closer but Misaki’s jealousy causes him to overwork himself and push Kaname away. Four years later, they meet again working together on what promises to be a very successful game.

This has some spice in it but it was sweet to see Misaki overcome his jealousy and essentially get out of his own to be happy not only romantically but professionally. The time skips were a bit much. They felt choppy and could have been smoother but it gets us to the happy ending we’re all hoping for. 3.7 out of 5.
