After an incident concerning the new student, Michiru, Miko ends up in the hospital; a place filled with a ton of history and an abundance of disturbing spirits.

The hospital part was cool and also sad. Of course there’s a bunch of restless spirits in an old hospital and the art design on them is very good. The real meat of this volume is whatever is up with this Michiru girl and also her older sister. The doughnut shop scene was funny with Miko trying to interact with the human being obscured by the spirit only she can see. The levity around the horror was welcome, especially after the sad hospital story. 4.5 out of 5.

Mieruko returns to that creepy shrine with Shindou and Mitsue to do something about the creatures haunting her best friend, Hana.

This volume was crazy, finally facing such a huge spirit and it’s genuinely terrifying. This series had fantastic creature design but still can handle being cute when it has time to be around all the horror. We also get some back story on Mitsue and her student, Shindou; who are amazing as they try to battle these creatures. It’s all coming together in what I hope will be a fantastic conclusion. 4.5 out of 5.

The old woman, Mitsue (also known as Godmother) has been helping Miko with her powers so she can help keep her best friend, Hana, safe. Yuria also wants to become as strong as Miko and find out what it is about Hana that attracts so many frightening spirits. But a former disciple of Godmother, Rom, wants to use Miko for his own plans.

Rom has some odd designs on some shrine and is really pushing Miko to get involved despite Mitsue’s warnings so, we’re getting into a larger plot here. I’m excited to learn more about how all of this works and why Rom is so keen on getting Miko to this shrine. The pacing has been pretty constant, slowly moving forward to what I hope will be some ghost fighting shenanigans. 4 out of 5.

An older practitioner, Mitsune, feels her powers are fading with age and retired from her business as a seer but when she sees how powerful Mieruko is, she cannot sit idly by and returns to help the young girl out.

In addition to seeing Mieruko FINALLY get some assistance (geez, this poor kid…) we have what appears to be a complete charlatan, Shindou, peddling charms  and tricks but he’s actually legit. What the plot will do with him we’ll have to see. So far, we don’t have what could be considered a villain outside of the entities themselves. And the art does not fail in making them creepy as hell.

The side story with the cats is thankfully continued and it just warms your heart. I hope it stays through the entire series.

I am both frustrated by and entertained by the slow unfolding of this story. 4 out of 5.

Mieruko has a new teacher, Zen, who is plagued by a particularly horrible and threatening spirit that Mieruko believes is affecting her best friend Hanna in addition to taking a tole on herself. Wanting to protect her friend, Mieruko decides she can’t just ignore this thing any longer.

While this continues to be fucking terrifying in terms of creature design, I am impressed with the character development in this volume. I’m hoping to see more communication between Mieruko and Yuria (who can also see spirits) because not only do they share this secret, it’s getting clearer Mieruko won’t be able to handle much more of this. She’s going to need a better strategy. 5 out of 5.

High schooler Mieruko is cursed with seeing horrible, twisted spirits all around her; but no one else can. She just does her best to ignore them while also protecting her best friend from these things.

This manga is cute but oddly fanservicey with all the up skirt and cleavage shots. It’s really sweet how Mieruko just want to protect the people she cares about as best she can without revealing she can see ghosts. I won’t spoil it but there’s a story about a kitty that sold me on this series. All the stories are quick one shots so I’m wondering how this will progress and if there will be an overarching story line. 4 out of 5.
