Nazuna and Mahiru continue to talk before Nazuna leave to allow Mahiru and Ko to finally have a conversation. The outcome of Kiku and Mahiru’s plan finally comes to fruition, leaving Ko with mixed emotions.
I’m so glad the mess with Kiku is over. My dislike of her and the lives she’s destroyed makes it hard for me to feel satisfied but at least it’s over. Now I’m hoping to get more of whatever Ko’s powers are shaping up to be and his relationship with Nazuna now that “Wee, I’m gonna be a vampire” fervor has calmed down with the reality of such an act not being so much fun. 4 out of 5.
In honor of Pride Month and the delightful person who sent me a middle finger when I put my books on sale in June last year, I’ve put my books featuring LGBTQ+ characters on sale once again for the entire month! Click any of the links below to check them out. Make sure the sale price is there since I don’t count on a bug free experience…
I am also proud to announce that my new project “Dewey” will have a non-binary lead and I will be releasing chapters on my Patreon when I’m far enough ahead in writing.
Sorry, Middle Finger Person. We’re not going anywhere.

Patreon has been updated with the next chapter of book 4! You can view the story in progress for just a dollar. Just please remember; it is necessary to have read the previous three books to understand book 4. They are available here on my blog, or on your platform of choice here, here, and here. Even if you can’t read via Patreon, this book will be available like the others once it’s finished but, it will likely be different as I’ll of course be editing it before the official release.

As the school trip approaches, Ko plans to use it as a chance to look for Kiku and Mahiru.
Using the school trip was an interesting choice. There’s something smart and silly about the way they managed to get a school trip plot in here since Ko hasn’t been to school or cared about school this whole time but, I’m rolling with it. It is odd that Ko dropping out of school is treated like no big deal and nobody bats an eye when he just shows up for the trip. I do want this Mahiru situation to make more progress. Whatever Kiku is with him for, I wanna know already because circling around it this long is starting to bother me. I really hope the payoff is worth it. 3 out of 5.

As Ko’s power grows so does the threat to him and Nazuna as the object capable of killing her is finally discovered.
Kiku’s possible endgame in all this pales in comparison to what’s going on with Ko, in my opinion. I do want a resolution to whatever Kiku is doing but the entire cast is baffled as to why and how Ko is changing the way he is and is massive strength. So far, his scary moments are confined to when he’s fighting so we’ll have to keep going to find out the details. As for Kiku, she’s just the right amount of flippant, manipulative, and dangerous to be interesting up to this point but I’d like her story to make more movement forward. Other than that, this was an action-packed volume with not much downtime and gives us a lot of information. 4.9 out of 5.

Ko and Nazuna have their final showdown with Kyoko, the vampire hunter.
The vampire hunter arc comes to an end and I’m mixed about adding the hunter as a permanent addition to the cast. It was written well but Kyoko did a lot of damage and it’s clear her story is far from over. This is taking some intriguing turns and I like how it’s all coming together. They keep the story going in an entertaining way. 4 out of 5.

A group of children believe they ate the last survivors on the planet and they are vampires. They were told to wait until come others return but it’s been many years. Thinking they’re alone, they are shocked to learn some humans still exist; humans they were told to promise never to eat.
This is a taste of a larger story that sets up a lot of information in a creative way without a bunch of info dumps. The art for this story is fitting, the slightly muted colors bringing out the red of the blood, but it feels lacking. It’s very short and predictable if you’ve ever read any other story like this but it’s not bad. 3.5 out of 5.

The secret we’ve been building up to in Nazuna’s past puts all vampire kind in danger as Uguisu sets her sights on killing Nazuna and her vampire friends and Ko as well.
I have to say Uguisu’s backstory and her dealings with vampires was not what I expected it to be but it’s interesting. It fits in well with the unique way vampires function in this universe. It presents a problem that makes me wonder if the solution will be satisfying to the plot. Uguisu is set on killing all the vampires and doesn’t fear putting crazy stunts in crowds of people. We’ll have to see what Nazuna decides to do in the next volume because all this exposure is clearly not a good thing. 4 out of 5.
