Today’s Workout and NaNoWriMo Update (because it’s late, I’m tired, and not making two posts)

Today, I had to moderate a program that didn’t take me away from my desk so rather than just sit there, I dusted off the ole under desk Wirk bike. I may not be fast but I’m diligent.

And it’s also day two of NaNoWriMo:

I made it! But I will say, I am not a fan of the NaNoWriMo website words per minute counter. Because with how nuts my day can be, yes I can actually write 3 words a minute because I get interrupted. I don’t have the luxury of stretches of time to do nothing but type. I shouldn’t feel judged, but I totally feel judged.

Either way, I feel pretty damn accomplished today. And just in time for my PMS to aggrivate my existing depression and anxiety to tell me hourly how much of a worthless shit I am. I can tell those properly medicated (time to make an appoinement with my therapist) conditions that at least I accomplished my goals for the day! Woohoo!

No, seriously, I feel pretty damn good about this. Bring on tomorrow!

NaNoWriMo Day One

OMFG, can we talk about how much outlining helped me with this? Now, I’ve basically been a pantser for most of my writing. I have a gerneral idea of what’s supposed to happen in my head and I just go. But the last time I attempted NaNoWriMo… A decade or so ago?

Shit, I’m old…

Anyway, the last time I tried it, I failed massively. Now, I still have the idea in my brain and I have an outline, I’m not rigidly sticking to it. I may have turned into a planner, but I’m not shamlessly sticking to my outline. Stories can be living things that – like children – don’t always follow the plan you laid out for them. They take on a life of their own.

Today was kinda crazy and it took until late at night to get my word goal but at least I didn’t struggle for ideas or anything. When I was able to grab a moment to write, the words flowed just fine.

Be prepared for all my posts to be about this until the end of the month.

Writing Update: Cover Reveal!

The rough draft of Dahlia is done and this is going to be the cover! I may tweak the font and I’m considering either a subtitle or series name but I wanted to show this off! And show that I’m not slacking on my writing or just talking about it without any results. 

I’m thinking this series will be three parts but depending on the flow, that my change. My original outline was four parts but I already changed that. That’s usually why I don’t outline… But I can’t deny my output has increased overall with a plan in place; even if I don’t follow it.

I don’t have a release date since I’m still editing to make sure it flows right and has no typos. I’ll post that as soon as I know.

Writing Update & Why I Went Dark For A Bit

I hope I didn’t worry anyone by not posting after my last update but I wanted to say something good in all the mess that’s going on. While I’ve been adjusting to working from home, I finished a rough draft of the next Go Away Girls book; “Flight.”

I’m working on editing it in between working from home and writing up more reviews so I don’t have an official release date. If you’re interested in this universe, check out the first book “The Mirror.”

As for a more personal update, we’re all still home, going out as little as possible, and blessedly still healthy. I am technically still employed but no longer getting the overtime I depend on to pay the mortgage. I count my blessings because there are people out there in way worse positions, but I will ask my readers to share and review my books and please, stay safe, stay clean, and stay home.

Overdue Writing/Reading Update

Over the last few months, I’ve been slowly working on Emma’s book in the First Brood series and working on the next episode of Fruit of the Dead. I’m a little annoyed with how slow it’s going but progress is being made.

The main reason why things are slow going is I have been working very hard on catching up with all the ARC books I have around. So, expect more reviews this month as I try to clear off my ereaders and get rid of all those books I got from BookExpo and Book Con. I’m starting to trip over those and that’s not good at all.

Overdue March Writing Update

Being home with a sick kid and all has left me with some time on my hands. So, I’ve been working pretty heavily on Emma’s book the last couple of days. I will likely have a rough draft of that ready before the summer and I’ll be posting little snippets over on my Patreon! 😀

I also have a bunch of reviews headed for the blog soon so look forward to those.

This is mostly just to remind my followers that I’m still alive and working on things. More upcoming later this week!

Writing Update: 500 Words a Day Challenge

Since I’m signed up for his newsletter, I went ahead and opted into Jeff Goins’ 500 Words Challenge. And so far, I’m doing pretty good! I think the only day I’ve missed was January first since I signed up for the challenge on the second.

I have been focusing on book 4 in the First Brood series since that’s the one I want to finish the most. Don’t worry. I’m still putting around with my other projects but First Brood 4 is what’s really been on my mind.

I know on the blog it says blogging counts but I haven’t been counting it because it’s the stories that will hopefully be providing me with the income I desperately need. Since I’ve built the momentum, I hope I can complete this challenge!

Writing Update: Bad News/Good News

I was reading through some reviews on my books – which I tend to do when I feel blocked or like I suck – and looking at the reviews on Go Away Girls: The Mirror, I decided to check and see where I left off with the novel I’m working on in that same universe. I plug in the flash drive, I double click the file and get a happy little message that the file is corrupted and can’t be repaired. I check my Google Drive? No backup. I had backups of every story BUT that one.

Then I think “Well, that’s fine. I’ll just get the notebook I wrote it in. I’m sure there’s a printed copy in there.” I spent the next 20 minutes tearing through things to locate it thinking I’d lost that too.

But the good news is, I did find it. I’m glad the worst thing about all that drama is the fact I have to retype the whole thing. Not a big deal at all. I have lost stories before (mostly because I’d trusted someone to give me the damn disk back and of course they lost it) and it’s devastating.

I’ll be adding that book into my rotation.

Right now, Emma’s story is up to 6375 words and I see plenty of potential in it now that I’ve spent the weekend editing it. I did consider scrapping the project thinking it would just going to be too short but I changed my mind.
