Morio and Yukiko are getting along well and their relationship is growing. Yukiko would like her friend Sora, who is also visually impaired, to be friends with Morio but Sora is hesitant to accept him.

Yukiko’s friends and classmates are hilarious and some much needed levity as this volume gets dark. Sora is a runner and that fact is used to show how a visually impaired person goes for a run; both with a guide and without. Where it gets dark is someone is deliberately leaving things for her to trip over. When they find out who it is and why he’s doing it, it’s messed up. It went darker than I expected it to go. Trigger warning for abuse. 4 out of 5.

Today’s Workout: It’s been awhile…

wp-1681915291684

I’m almost done with these side missions and I did notice my calves cramping a little during this run. It wasn’t terrible, I powered through it, but it was not fun. I’ve also been trying to go out and walk for a few minutes; even if it’s just to play Pokemon Go for awhile. I get some sun (so I don’t look so pale and dead) and more steps in my day. It’s a win win.

Now, it was a pretty regular day food wise but I made bacon and eggs for the first time in MONTHS. I had a later breakfast (I am really not a fan of eating first thing in the morning. It felt super nostalgic to have this but I won’t be doing it too often. Bacon is a weakness that I can’t have too often. I put some red pepper flakes on the eggs (which were cooked in the bacon fat) and while not the healthiest, it was super satisfying.

I ended up snacking on popcorn for dinner since I just wasn’t that hungry. I was under my calorie goal and I hit over 6000 steps. I count this as a good day.

Lenni Reviews: “Choujin X” Vol. 3, by Sui Ishida

The Yamato Mori trains choujin to either become keepers or just to keep control of their abilities so they can lead a normal life. Ely is doing very well but Tokio is struggling not only with his abilities but what he wants for his future.

This volume is fucking WILD. The paper chojin is insane an so creatively done. I thought this was going to be mostly training but there is a ton of action and variety in the different abilities a choujin can have. My jaw actually dropped while reading this. And that damn cliffhanger at the end? This is a great volume. 4 out of 5.

Today’s Workout: Back Tracking

I’m all done with season 9 and there isn’t much of season 10 out yet so, I’m going back to finish the side missions from seasons. I can be a completionist when it comes to these things. And it was a good run; I had to adjust my posture from time to time. I have a bad habit of hunching over and that makes my back hurt.

These were my meals for the day; leftovers for lunch and a salad for dinner. I took the picture before I added croutons, full disclosure. I did add them to my food diary. I just used olive oil and red wine vinegar instead of salad dressing and the cheese was not low-fat. I am not concerned the fat content of a pinch of cheese. I’m looking at the big picture here and treating myself with a bit of cheese is not a big deal. Especially since I’m becoming more active overall.

Maruo knows he needs to get stronger in order to help Urara; even with the support of the Todoroki Alliance. Thanks to how powerful Enma is now, they know it will be impossible for Urara to regain her position with out more help.

This volume was interesting. I liked that Maruo found a way to train and increase his strength and that their group is growing. However, this felt a little thin. The training was cool and I enjoy the characters but this volume lacked the energy and fun as the previous ones. 3 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Megumi & Tsugumi” Vol. 3, by Mitsuru Si

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review and is rated 18+

When once they were ‘friends’ with benefits, Megumi and Tsugumi are an official couple. But a possible rival, Inami, takes an interest in Tsugumi’s strength and is a clear threat to Megumi. There’s also the problem of Megumi’s father and his negative opinion of omegas.

I figured a rival alpha would be the next step this manga took since our main couple is established. Unless some other contrivance comes along but Tsugumi is so derpily earnest that I don’t think a lot of the miscommunication romantic tropes will be believable. Also, Tsugumi’s dads are hilarious and adorable; both in the main story and in their little side stories. 3.9 out of 5.

Mieruko returns to that creepy shrine with Shindou and Mitsue to do something about the creatures haunting her best friend, Hana.

This volume was crazy, finally facing such a huge spirit and it’s genuinely terrifying. This series had fantastic creature design but still can handle being cute when it has time to be around all the horror. We also get some back story on Mitsue and her student, Shindou; who are amazing as they try to battle these creatures. It’s all coming together in what I hope will be a fantastic conclusion. 4.5 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “A Boy Named Rose” by Gaëlle Geniller

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

Set in 1920’s Paris, twenty year old Rose has always dreamed of dancing on stage at Le Jardin; a cabaret his mother manages. When he gets the chance, Rose acquires an ardent fan, Aime, who attends all his shows and is persistent in seeing Rose one on one.

This graphic novel is beautiful and actually calming. It’s not overly dramatic, light hearted, and takes it’s time as Rose explores his identity and enjoys expressing him or herself by doing what s/he loves with the people s/he loves. It’s romantic and character driven, very worth checking out. I kept waiting for something awful to happen but, nope! It’s just so sweet. 4 out of 5.

Today’s Workout: Cravings

wp-1681337294225

Today was a beautiful day yet also gave me a taste of running in the very warm room. Not a fan but I’ll just have to deal with it. Since it was such a nice day, I decided to take the walk to fulfill my very powerful craving for a bagel with egg and sausage.

wp-16813239706978387578535313260287

Could I have made something like this at home? Yes. Was it half the cost of the tuna bagel? Also, yes. And all those steps plus my run got me to the 10k steps for the day.

wp-1681342404892

I was wondering how I was going to use the bacon ends I got from Misfits Market and a BLT salad with lime juice and avocado was exactly what I needed. I also packed a portion for lunch tomorrow and now I have something reasonably healthy to use up all the bacon I have in the house.

Since I did so much walking and running, I decided that was enough for the day and only did some stretching after this. It’s getting warmer and I feel the clock ticking closer to NYCC. If I want my cosplay to look right, I need to push but not to the point where I end up hurting myself and can’t workout at all. Yes, there’s an outfit I want to wear but I also want to be healthier and stronger overall.

Today’s Workout: I Deserve Cute!

wp-1681253166327

This is the point in c25k where I start to wonder if I can make it through the longer runs because I feel every second of those 5 minute intervals. I did them but wanted to have a fucking party once they were over.

wp-1681323955905

I’ve mentioned how my kid won’t take cute lunches to school because they’re “embarrassing” and of course I am told this AFTER I purchase all the stuff to make them. So, I decided I deserve cute lunches and I’m gonna make them for my damn self! This is that soy marinated salmon with rice, garlic baked in sesame oil and red pepper flakes, avocado, tomato, and onion with rice. It was a LOT of rice. I’d put in half the portion next time but the two layers were the right way to go so the cold stuff stayed cold while the warm stuff went in the microwave.

wp-1681258178682

Since I had some of that lemon tuna left, I threw in some lettuce and onion to finish it off. After all that rice, it was really refreshing and also light for after my workout. I don’t know how long I can reasonably keep the lemon tuna in the fridge but I wouldn’t mind making a couple extra portions for a quick, light meal. It sucks standing and chopping for a long time after a workout. I’m already sore and that doesn’t help. But if I have this prepped, all I need is a few extra veggies and bam! All done. I’m all about time management with these things since I  have all these other projects going on.
