This weekend was Flame Con and even though I usually don’t cook after running around all day in the city, Saturday I had some peppers I didn’t want to go bad so I made sure to cook something fairly simple.
And of course, I had an amazing time at Flame Con. Everyone at this con is just super nice and polite, accepting and it’s just the most positive vibes I’ve felt in a public setting in a long time. I bought too many books (as is my usual habit) and even had some of them signed!
I’ll be reviewing them for the blog when I get around to them. I have a pile I’m already working through.
After walking around so much all day, I didn’t do any cardio for my workouts. I decided on Sunday to do my body weight apps and some stretching. I did more stretching than just the app because all that walking made me very sore.
This week, I hope to get back to Zombies Run. I decided to try out their 5k training program rather than C25K because I’m very curious about it. And it’s cooled off, so I don’t mind hitting the treadmill. We’ll see how I can handle a faster running pace after taking a break for so long.
This was my first year at Flame Con and I have to say, I had a great time and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more welcome at a con. Everyone was SUPER nice.
Also, I think since this was a smaller con, things were really well organized. Every panel I attended was on time and interesting, the hotel staff had no problem helping me out in finding the proper places to get my ticket scanned, a great experience all around.
On a total aside, these blessed things were stationed all over the place.
Especially since cons tend to be a sweaty, hot, oppressive gauntlet; having these water stations around was fantastic.
I was only able to go one day but I had a fantastic time and I hope I get to go next year! It was really informative and a lot of fun.
This year was the first time this event took place and it was very obvious. Vendors and artists alley in the same room, tiny little panel rooms and such… Very small but let me tell you, I have never felt so much love at a convention before. All the authors, vendors, artists, and other attendees were kind, funny, and so amazingly understanding. And I say understanding because I walked into the Yuri!! On Ice panel and was very likely the only one in the room who never saw the show. I came there to see what it was about and everyone was excited to share.
The same could be said for the author panels (which, I attended for obvious reasons) where I learned a great deal about tropes in LGBTQ fiction and how to represent a wider range of characters.
I also got some swag, of course:
I will be reviewing these books, of course. And those first two books are signed! 😀
If this con keeps going (PLEASE DO) next time, I would make a weekend out of it. I ended up having to miss panels I really wanted to see because I didn’t want to be driving back home at 1 am. People get stupid on highways normally so add dark and bridges to that and NOPE. Lenni would rather not, thanks.
Overall, I learned a lot, I met some fun people, I gave out a bunch of cards, and I have some fun books to review. I would love to attend next year and I hope it was successful enough to warrant a yearly event.
Today, I was able to get my boss to spring for the professional pass for NYCC. If all goes well, me and Misfit Librarian will be going. But here’s the rub:
This year, you have to apply and we find out in 21 days IF we get to go.
To the person(s) who somehow gamed the system to score 4 day passes on the cheap, thanks for making the process harder for us. You suck. T_T
Other than that, I am excited to go. I toy with the idea of dressing up as Poison Ivy or my usual “Gonna have to carry a bunch of crap” uniform of jeans and an obnoxious t-shirt. Depends on what I feel like doing. :p
Lenni went to Comic Con!! Only on Saturday, as per my previous entry, but it was still very cool. 🙂 I did NOT dress up. I dressed for comfort. These things are marathons, people. You do not wear lycra onsies to a marathon. Or maybe you do. I’ve never run one. XD
Here’s Chewie being interviewed. I have no clue what about. You try elbowing your way close to Chewbacca. 0.0
This was the How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse panel. The guy at the podium made some smart ass crack about New York so if you see him being chased by zombies, fellow New Yorkers, trip him.
That is Seth Green. I did not get anywhere close to or speak to this man. They guy next to him looks pretty jazzed, though. XD
These are a couple of t-shirts that I thought were cool but I have a ton of shirts so I just enjoy the sayings and move on.
This guy is wearing a thong on his head. What? You need another reason for me to take a picture of him?
Lenni will be at New York Comic Con! 😀 Not that I’ll have a table or anything (maybe one day). But I’ll be attending on Friday as a representative of my library. ^_^ Last year, I met Jeff Somers so who knows who I’ll meet this year! 😀
The day I get a table will be the day I get throngs of fans imploring to meet me. 😉
I’ll only be able to go on Friday since Ma has chemo on Saturday and I have OT on Sunday. But one day is better than no days. 🙂
