Reason for the Season?

As is very unlike me, I went to a grocery store the day before Thanksgiving on my lunch break. I went on my lunch break thinking it wouldn’t be too horrid but nope. People are already rude, impatient, frazzled, and ticked off.

This is why I avoid shopping unless I need to this time of year.

It is also why I feel the magic has gone out of this season for me. Its hard enough trying to just get through life, I don’t get why people have to make themselves miserable or bankrupt themselves or try and run people over just to get THINGS. I am already DONE with the holidays. Wake me in January. ;_;

Pagan Blog Project – “O” for “Ostara”

I have to say, Ostara is my favorite holiday. 😀 Not just for all the fertility symbols all over the place, but for the feeling of a new beginning. It is also the first Pagan holiday I shared with my daughter that easily dovetails with Easter so I can get all the eggs and baskets I need and still do cool witchy stuff with her. 🙂

If we’re gardening that year, we use that day to start the seedlings and take some time to enjoy the day outside (weather permitting) before the bugs come out in force. We dye eggs and paint flowers to welcome the coming Spring. If it’s raining, I take time out to watch the rain. I feel it’s a way for me and my kid to connect to nature when we live in a suburban environment.

Freaky Friday – Dealing with the holiday madness

I’m back at work after 4 days off for a baking marathon (yes, I’m a homemade gift gal). I got everything that needed mailing mailed but I still have more gifts to bake for people.

As a result, my daily writing goal is in the tank. :p

I’ll be honest, I did baking, housework, parenting, laundry, AND had time to workout but by the end of the day, I was so black out tired that there wasn’t enough synapses firing to write properly.

But I did write. A word here, a plot point there… Anything to keep the muscle strong, ya know? But do any other writers find they have to scramble for writing time around the holidays? I’ve been accused of being a Scrooge more than once because I wanna run away and write the very SECOND I’m done with my holiday requirements. Anybody else find this happening to them?

Uhoh… I had an idea… >}

I don’t like to jinx things but I have a plan… It’s a crazy plan, but a plan. If it works out, it would be awesome.

But for now, I’m keeping it mum. 😉

In other news, the holiday season is almost upon us. This year, I am planning a small Thanksgiving so I don’t lose my mind. It’s the first one without Ma so my priority is to make it as normal as possible for my daughter.

And now that I’ve depressed the HELL out of you all, we’ll get to my (probably doomed) plan to lose 20 pounds by summer. I think that’s a doable goal seeing as how it’s November. :p But I’ll be updating on that periodically. Meaning “When I lose weight and NEVER when I gain it.” XD

I am a bit scatterbrained today. I always am the morning after I work till 9pm. @_@ If I reach my word goal today, I shudder to think what it will consist of. XD

Reality Bites (sorta)

Here I am back from my week long girl get away. Eh, it’s not bad to be back. I did miss my family. But man, did I ever have fun. >}

I’m back to writing and typing Greenhouse as I edit Dreamhunter to be put up on Createspace. I also have to finish typing all those short stories and the next bit of Go Away Girls to post on the site. It’s been a busy holiday season what with all the baking I’ve been doing to prepare (and for fun), but since I’m going back to work in the morning, I’ll have my head completely back in the game tomorrow. ^_^

Tomorrow is also Yule, which I look forward to almost as much as Beltane. 🙂 This year will have a full moon as well so I would like to take the kiddo out to gaze at it as long as weather permits. She’s a little young for full on rituals so a little prayer will have to do.

The holidays are certainly taking there toll on me. I can tell because I’m perpetually sleepy and I have a lovely, stress induced sty forming. It doesn’t look bad and I intend to keep it that way, damnit. If I keep soaking it and can manage not to touch my eye, it should be gone in time for the 25th where I will be shuttled around to people who don’t hide from cameras like I do. >_o If not, I’ll have to get creative about my poses. XD

Till tomorrow, lovelies!

Taking a moment

I know Rosa Parks is so much more about the bus boycott, but she sparked something that changed the lives of my people forever. So for that, and for everything she’s done to advance equality, I thank her.

It may be a shocker to those who can’t tell from my picture, but I am African American. My family came here from Bermuda and I am fourth generation here. My grandfather was in the British navy and met my Granny at a USO party. It’s from him that I get my light skin, but Granny gave me my face. I look exactly like her.

I was raised to be a strong, proud Black woman so that is what I consider myself today. I am able to do this because of women like Mrs. Parks and my grandmother (who dared to marry a White man) and I can never thank them enough.

On an only slightly less sappy note, happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends out there!! ðŸ˜€
