Library Tip Of The Day! :D

If a book is so disgusting you cringe to touch it to put it in a bag? Don’t bother to donate it to a library. Please. Your friendly neighborhood librarian is tired of getting rashes from old, dirty, moldy books. I know you feel bad throwing them away, I understand that feeling, but if you can barely touch it, how is anybody else supposed to read it?

And I’m tired of getting rashes from these things. It’s just gross.

Signed,

Lenni the Librarian.

Ahh, Wednesday

Wednesdays are my usual late nights where I work at the library from 1-9pm, leaving the mornings to get various errands done or simply gird my loins for the long night. This week was a trip to the pediatrician to have the doc take a look at my coughing, runny nosed kid. We get to the office and don’t have to wait long, which is good because me and Penny have a similar attention span only a different taste in toys, and all the doctor has to do is LOOK at her and she starts screaming her head off. 0.0

My monkeygirl was warned ahead of time that there would be no shots this visit, that since she was sick, we were going to the doctor to make her better. She understood and was glad she was going. But once he was in front of her, we had to hold her down just so he could check her throat. You’d think we were torturing her the way she screamed!

On the upside? No strep throat.

The doctor sent me home with instructions to get her Dimatapp which said expressly on the label not to give to any kid under 6. I decided not to take the chance, given the HUGE Tylenol recall, and opted for a medicine for kids 2 and up. After the Tylenol thing, I just don’t trust over the counter medications for my kid. Me? I’m old. I can take the punishment. There’s still hope for my monkeygirl, so I’m not taking the chance.

I’ve been writing pretty steadily and reading here and there. I’m almost done with "American Woman in the Chinese Hat" which is sad but very good. I also finished a short story; "Chasing His Own Tale" by Marc Vun Kannon. It’s a really cute story which I will review in full tomorrow (since I don’t have it in front of me now). I met him on Twitter. W00t to social networking!! ðŸ˜€ It’d be cool if he read my stuff, too, but I’m not gonna hassle him. No sense being a whiner about it, ya know?

These days, I’ve been working alternately on "Go Away Girls" and "Greenhouse." See that hotlink there? First chapter of "Girls" went up on Sunday. Go. Read. Discuss. Then eat a cookie. 🙂

Personal or no?

I read a sizable amount of blogs, whatever I can fit in on a given day. And there are some points where I’m reading and I literally feel like I’m spying on the person. Yes, they’ve put it out there to be read on a public forum but still, I feel like I’m prying.

I know I’ve spoken about my mother’s cancer, my insane child, my religion or politics may have crept in here or there but not in a huge way. All in all, I try to keep it all strictly business but that seems unfair. Everybody else has opened a window into their lives while I still keep all my shades drawn. Not that I’ll be providing details on gyno appointments or anything but I could get a bit more open here. 🙂

So what would you all like to know? 😉

I return!

Back at dayjob from a nice vacation to a desk piled high with work. YAY!

That’s right, I said "yay." Taking a break from work is all well and good but I am not the type to stay at home all the time. I will go insane. I did very much enjoy spending quality time with my kiddo. She can really tweak the guilt when she puts her mind to it. "I don’t want you to go back to work ever, ever again." She tells me. A quick explanation if how exactly those shiny shoes that are just like Dorothy’s, came to be in our home and subsequently on her feet, and it was acceptable for me to work. Yah know, as long as I’ve got her permission and all. 😉

Other than playing with her I worked out. A LOT. More accurately, my kiddo worked out with me. I am finally noticing a difference in how I look and feel and how my clothes fit. I am very much looking forward to Samhain this year. I can’t wait to actually be able to dress up with my kid and not feel like a bloated hog crammed into some lycra monstrosity. >_< Anywayz, the P90x I’m using to workout works. It works very well. It hurts like you wouldn’t believe, I can barely keep up, and I have to modify the hell out of some of the workouts because I have bad knees, but it works. It warns against people who are not fit doing it but since I seem to enjoy punishment, I jumped right in. Don’t be like me.

Right now I am reading Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. Uhhmmm… I’m gonna withhold my full judgment till I’m completely done with the series (I’m midway through the third one now, they’re fast reads) but I’ll say first off I find the lack of consent completely disturbing. I understand what it means to be a complete slave but these are young men and women given to the royal court by their parents who have no option at all to say "Gee, I don’t think I enjoy being raped in to submission by the kitchen staff. I think I’d like to go home." Just… Wow.

These days, I’m back to working on "Greenhouse." Better get back to it then! 😀

Let the flood gates open!

This has been a pretty shitty week (including the weekend). Between chronic problems with hubby’s car and a stupid fight with a friend, life seemed generally in the shitter.

Until now. ^____^

That’s right guys and dolls, "Dreamhunter" is ready to be purchased in print or as a PDF for your hungry little brains to digest.

Now that all the drama is over, I can get back to work and get a less ugly site up and ready to go. Writing will take time, though. Stress is like a kick in the nads to my muse. We both need a deep breath, some quiet time to heal, and perhaps a couple beers.

And hugs. Plenty of hugs.

Oh, and this is WIN. The Last Airbender movie sucked ass. Fan or no fan – and I am a HUGE fan of this cartoon – there was only a single redeeming factor in this movie: the effects. Elements are bended, glowy tattoos glow, but for 12$ a ticket, I feel ripped off and Shyamalan owes me 2 hours of my life back. The universe was already built, the story already written, HOW THE BLOODY FUCKING HELL DO YOU SCREW THAT UP??? HOW!

On the nature of forgiveness: Brain Dump

If it’s one thing women are supposed to be able to do insanely well, it’s hold a grudge. Hell hath no fury and all that crap (I have more respect for the classics than I let on, just bear with me here). But forgiveness is another matter.

This is on my brain because sometimes I really sit back and remember all the really stupid things I’ve done over the course of my life. I try pretty darn hard not to do things deliberately to hurt people so if I do, I feel absolutely HORRIBLE about it. I don’t mean: “Yesterday, I stepped on someone’s foot and neglected to say sorry.” I mean “I did something silly like mention my husband’s double cheeseburger habit to a family of Orthodox Jewish friends YEARS ago and when it pops up in my head, I am nearly in tears with guilt.” Ridiculous, right? I should have forgiven myself when those people in question quite frankly didn’t give a shit what other people ate but to this day, I have a twinge of guilt.

Right now, I’m working on a part in Greenhouse where the reader will probably have a devil of a time forgiving Auris for what he’s allowed to happen; so getting Darjeeling to forgive him in a believable way will be difficult. With the nature of forgiveness on my creative mind, it stands to reason it would flood into the rest of it, as well. I’ve hurt a girl, I’ve been the hurt girl. In both cases, those are tears I will never forget. In the former remembering those tears is like a knife to the heart. In the latter, I want a knife in my hand. T_T Neither of these people are going to leave my life, so what do I do? This is made especially difficult since I have issues dealing with my own feelings in a healthy matter overall. Mama taught her little Lenni that life’s too short for feelings. You pick your shit up, keep working, and keep going because tears don’t pay the damn bills. You cry when you have time. Great for keeping lights on, backs clothed, and bellies full. Not so great in the “Now let’s write about feelings” department.

This is one of those self help deals that takes a long time to work through and there is no way in hell I am holding off on writing the story to wrap my head around this (just after breaking though my block? Are you kidding me?!) so any advice would be appreciated. @_@

(and I had pasta salad for lunch today!! XD)

Who does she think she is?

Who indeed!

I plan to watch that documentary tonight and reading the promos and looking at books along the same lines and it’s got me thinking: I don’t see much on women who have kids, work full time, and THEN try to cram their creative outlets in any spare few seconds they can find. Not that I’m the type to go scraping at new frontiers or look down on stay at home moms who try and fit their art in around their kids, but working full time with kids AND striving to keep your creative fire is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Who who the hell do I think I am? Ballz out, I want to say, "Whoever the fuck I want, bitchez!" Ahhh, if only life were that simple. First off, I LOVE my job. I don’t want to quit. In fact, the thought of quitting my job to pursue my dream is shooting myself in the foot. Librarianship is PART of my dream. It helps me be who I am as much as writing and drawing so why the heck would I give it up? And d00d, all the books I can get my grubby little hands on for FREE! I’d be stupid to give this up. Second, I don’t DO stay at home mom. I practically went batshit crazy on maternity leave and that was even with the hope of going back to work. You think the Lenni is crazy NOW, she’d be Yellow Wallpaper crazy under the yoke of housewifery. Other women can do it, I can’t. I like having a career. It makes me feel independent and useful.

I get a LOT of questions from other women in my life asking me how I was able to complete a novel, start another one, write a bevy of short stories, keep a full time job, have a side business, draw, and all the while being around the kid enough for her to still remember what I look like. And I have no idea. To try and figure that out (and as a cheap gimmick to pry more blog posts out of me) I’m starting Mommy Monday. The lovely trials and tribulations of how the bloody hell I manage all this with out being on mood elevators or booze.

There are many times in my life where I really just sit and wonder if there are any other women like me who not only have a Third Shift; but a fourth or quite possibly a fifth. If you find any, point them the way here. I’d certainly love to know who they are.

Makin the effort

The mythical "They" says I must blog every day to be a success. So, the Lenni has a couple questions: What kinds of things would you all like to read from me every day? Do YOU blog every day? Would endless complaints about how the blank pages mock me or how Open Office fucks up the formatting in my Word 2007 files? Do you want to hear a library rant every so often? Cause I got plenty of those. XD

Ya’ll gotta let the Lenni know, people. I do enjoy the occasional personal question but I reserve the right not to answer. (Bwahaha!)

Anyways, on to writing type news. There are day to day activities that tend to inspire me to write different things. Weeding and collection development are two of those things. Looking for books on certain subjects usually exposes gaps in subject matters that I never would have thought to write about.

I tend towards fiction. You can fact check elements of fiction (yes, I have been fact checked) but on the whole the "make shit up" aspect tends to leave me free of reality’s constraints. But every so often, I get a bug up my ass to write non-fiction. This time, it’s particularly strong. Like, "I have half an outline in my head already," strong. Should I go for it? I mean really? I should post a tally of my current projects to make this question a bit meatier… XD

Anyways, it’s out there and up for consideration. We shall just have to see what falls where. 🙂

Till later, babies!
