Today’s Workout: Not quite…

wp-1684938285369

I decided to take a lunch walk today and it’s not quite the weather to go outside without a sweater. Not that I want it to be super hot; I loathe the heat. By the time I was done, I’d warmed up pretty good and I managed to score some veggies on sale.

For lunch I gave these garlic noodles a try. They were not good. They were overly sweet yet somehow tasteless at the same time. It’s a shame but I ended up tossing it without finishing it all.

For dinner, I was craving a chicken Caesar salad. I used the grilled lemon pepper chicken from Trader Joe’s that comes already cooked and it was so good. Much better than the noodles. Combined, it was a high salt day, but I am a very hydrated person so I didn’t bloat too much. I was even able to get the cheese for this on sale! Hey, I’m broke so, I’ll take whatever savings I can get.

Today’s Workout: Yes, there’s two of them

I was all set on the desk peddler when the Saxenda kicked in and when that happens, you drop everything and go to the bathroom. Then I went back and did the full 40 minutes I’d intended to do in the first place.

For lunch I had steamed bok choy and snow peas with beef and ramen noodles. Around dinner, I wasn’t really that hungry so I had a small salad. I finally remembered to do my 50 squats and crunches and got my steps in. A couple days ago, I weighed myself and I’m down to 202.8! I’ve lost 29.2 pounds and I’m almost finally under 200. I have about a month before I go back to the doctor so I’m hoping to hit that goal before then and really impress them.

After Nozue allowed Togawa to open his experiences to fun as well as romance, their relationship is running into issues with intimacy and the fear of someone at work finding out about their relationship.

This volume handles a lot of emotional work on their relationship so if you’re looking for just smut after the first volume, you’ll have to wade through a bit of angst to get to the sweet and spicy parts. The smutty bits aren’t super detailed but they get the point across enough to make this for mature readers. They’re an odd couple but they work together and if you’re looking for yaoi with an older character (not that 39 is old) this isn’t half bad. 3 out of 5.

Summer approaches and the Astronomy Club prepares for their first official club event; a meteor shower watch party. Meanwhile, Magari and Nakami attend a festival together as their relationship grows closer.

The majority of this volume is watching these kids get their event together as well as our main couple still struggling with their sleep issues. The kids are so earnest and determined to make the club and the party to be a success and it’s super sweet. It’s a very refreshing volume. 4 out of 5.

Tokiyuki Hojo and his allies prepare to make a move against their enemies but Hojo must earn the respect of Yorishige’s forces by facing Shokan.

The battle was cool and seeing Tokiyuki use the skills he’s learned so far but something is missing. It feels kinda dry despite all the action going on. I wasn’t able to connect with this one like the others even though I did keep turning the pages to find out what happened next. Maybe the next one will have more of a punch. 3 out of 5.

Ken has found Yuria but Raoh is also after her to keep her from Ken. Now, it’s time for their showdown utilizing a deadly final technique.

This was an interesting final battle but it feels a little silly that with the tone of this series, after the technique and strength shown in the final battle really came down to love and feelings. I mean, I get it, it was entertaining but I thought it would come down to all the experience Ken has gained allowing him to win the fight. The final battle between them was cool, though but Yuria was super dull. 3.9 out of 5.

As Ko’s power grows so does the threat to him and Nazuna as the object capable of killing her is finally discovered.

Kiku’s possible endgame in all this pales in comparison to what’s going on with Ko, in my opinion. I do want a resolution to whatever Kiku is doing but the entire cast is baffled as to why and how Ko is changing the way he is and is massive strength. So far, his scary moments are confined to when he’s fighting so we’ll have to keep going to find out the details. As for Kiku, she’s just the right amount of flippant, manipulative, and dangerous to be interesting up to this point but I’d like her story to make more movement forward. Other than that, this was an action-packed volume with not much downtime and gives us a lot of information. 4.9 out of 5.

As they head back to school after Christmas break, Erika’s grades have tanked due to her being distracted with Kyoya so he offers to tutor her. When Valentine’s Day rolls around, their classmate Shinohara develops a crush on Erika, making Kyoya jealous.

Okay, Kyoya is crossing the line between cutting and aloof to flat out abusive asshole. It isn’t healthy or amusing to see him treat Erika like crap, making her cry, and generally making her miserable. Its enough to make you hope she dumps him flat out for someone better. There is also a side story “I Ain’t Your Clown” where a student named Kodama uses humor to avoid being rejected. She is so adorable, it washed the nasty taste Kyoya left in my mouth. 4 out of 5.

The Jack of Hearts game comes to a close in this volume only to go right into the next; the King of Spades where a man armed to the teeth ruthlessly hunts down the participants and the only way to win is to take him out.

The Kind of Spades fight is super dramatic; really digging into the lives of career soldiers and how combat affects them. I like the combination of the middle schooler Dodo, high schooler Akane and the soldier, Agumi. They are so different and play off each other well; making it easy to root for them as we take a break from Arisu and his group. 4.5 out of 5.

In the summer of 1984, a dead body is found on Pelican road, kicking off a series of events that exposes dark secrets in this seemingly idyllic suburban neighborhood. This dramatic mystery has a cheating wife, runaway drug addict, a little girl who believes she’s a superhero, and a fake cop all get pulled into orbit when a dead guy turns up on the sidewalk. It reads like a true crime documentary and the art reflects the gritty mess that are people’s private lives. It switches perspectives through each character and has some great twists and turns. If you’re looking for a crime story that has some unexpected curves, this is pretty good. 4 out of 5.
