Finally Watched it: “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” vol 3.

Again, this volume follows the manga but there are some more strange camera angles or the calm voice of the actor not matching the screaming face of the animated figure (or the reverse). But the music is amazing and the movements are clean and smooth. The plot is tight and there are so many anime out there with tons of filler that it’s nice to see a narrative get to the point and stay there.

I had fun watching this series and I think it’s a wouldn’t mind coming back to watch more than once. It’s dark but also adorable and heartfelt. I’m glad I took time for this one. Anything that thoughtfully turns tropes upside down is welcome. Its super creepy that Kyubey is one obvious metaphor for being taken advantage of during one of the most vulnerable time in a young person’s life. And poor Homura… But seeing her in action?! Picking up all those techniques?! Fucking WIN!

Now, I have been poking around and there are other manga for this series that I may try to hunt down and read. If I can find them, I may review those as well.

All in all, this was fun and I LOVE being back into anime again.

Finally Watched It: “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” vol 2

This volume follows the second volume of the manga pretty closely and while the voice acting and music keep their quality, there were a couple of questionable camera angles that had me confused. They were super diagonal or oddly framed in a way where you know no human being would have deliberately placed a camera. At one point two characters were sitting at a table and I think the camera would have to have been sitting on the girl’s lap, at an angle, with the zoom at 150%. This only happened a couple of times so it wasn’t too distracting.

The tone also is constant but I was a little taken aback by the gore being blacked out. Perhaps I’m spoiled by other anime were zero fucks are given and people spill gallons of blood all the time. I wonder what this would have looked like if the animators were really allowed to let loose.

Overall, I’m enjoying this! I don’t know if this is an anime I’d watch more than once, though.

June Loot Crate Anime: Victory

No, I don’t get why I get these so late in the month… By the time they ship and actually arrive at my door, the month’s already over. Ah well…

This month includes:

  • Sohoku shirt
  • Victory poster
  • Color changing water bottle
  • Trophy charm
  • Free Luggage tag
  • Splatoon squid… thing…
  • Yowamushi Pedal vol 1

Man, did this box get me wanting my bike. Not that I was a racer or anything; I just liked doing it. I will have to get back to it and wear that shirt on the ride. For the lulz, of course.

I’m always a fan of water bottles (I have a system where I use my Brita to filter the water, then fill up a bunch of water bottles to put in the fridge instead of just the Brita container in order to eliminate arguments about who put the thing back in the fridge empty), the luggage tag with come in handy but… That squid thing? Gave it to the kid since she had to identify it for me.

The manga is ok, I guess. I tried to read it and kinda got bored but, to be fair, I wasn’t exactly in the mood for it. I’ll give it another honest shot and review it for you guys.

Overall, this box was meh as the theme in general isn’t something I would get excited over – like the Miku box – but it’s still stuff I can enjoy.

Finally Watched It: “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” vol 1 by Magica Quartet and Hanokage

Obviously, this is the anime which tells the same story as the manga I have been reading and reviewing. And it was completely worth it to see this on screen.

The story is the same but it was so awesome to see the characters moving and talking. The soundtrack is amazing, the animation is clean and sharp, and the voice acting is on point. One thing I will say that the anime does better than the manga is the witch labyrinths. Seeing that in color and moving was like seeing a twisted wonderland where all the cute things are designed to kill you. And I’m thinking this is entirely the point.

The anime shies away from gore but it does take more time to revel in the horror. You can turn a page fast but having to watch the characters cry and suffer is a different experience.

Again, I am enjoying the different take on magical girls. I’ve said that a lot, but it’s true. There is another volume (so I don’t feel guilty for watching this before reading volume three since volume three isn’t on this DVD) which I’m waiting to get into my hot little hands and of course, I will be reviewing it.

Seeing the same ole stories in a new light is always fun and I can’t wait for the next one!

May 2016 Loot Anime Crate: Unity

img_20160603_065742147.jpg

This one came in a little late. But what we have here is swag from:

  • Yo-Kai Hunter
  • Fullmetal Alchemist
  • Dragonball Z
  • The Boy and the Beast

My kid is more into Yo-Kai Hunter than I am so, guess who gets a new shirt? This crate is pretty cool overall even if I’m not as into these series as I could or want to be. But it’s awesome that I can share these with my kid and give her things from series she’s a fan of. How many shirts can I really wear, after all?

All in all, very cool. June’s theme is supposed to be Victory so there should be some kick ass stuff in there too.

April Anime Loot Crate: Duel

img_20160426_094759692.jpg

In this crate:

  • Duelist hat
  • Yugi Oh Socks
  • Pokemon game cards
  • Ace Attorney business card holder
  • Poster
  • Pin
  • Battle t-shirt

This crate was pretty cool but I can tell that I’m going to be giving away a lot of this. I don’t wear hats or play card games and I fell off with Yugi-Oh a loooong time ago. But I’ll find people who’ll want them I’m sure.

Loot Anime

img_20160210_182347374.jpg

After seeing this pop up just ALL the time in my email, I finally broke and signed up.

So far, I like it alright. Mainly, it made me feel guilty that I don’t watch as much anime as I used to. I did start watching Kill La Kill but I never finished it. What I say, I loved tho.

As for the rest, I will get back to you. I usually pass the toys on to my kid so we’ll see where they all end up.

That shirt? That’s mine. I effing love it.

Reviewing Frenzy!

For some reason I cannot fully explain, I seem to have a pretty decent demand for reviews. 0.0 It baffles me that people not only care what I have to say but ASK to offer up their baby to my criticism. Nevertheless, I was asked to review two novels in less than a week. I put aside everything; including the final wrap up for Battle Royale, to get them done.

And it paid off. They are here and here.

I have a third book with no due date so that will be up in a little while. In the meantime, I would like to get back on track with my writing and reading stuff that I really need to give back to the library. I had a couple books go overdue in the reviewing frenzy. >_<

Writer Wednesday – Writing Check-in!

Happy Wednesday everybody! 😀 I thought I’d try and get in the habit of a weekly check in with you all to let you know how things are going writing wise since I’m sure you’re all chomping at the bit to see more work from me. 😉

First of all, Winter Boot is nearly complete. I have two, maybe three short chapters to go and I’ll get to posting them on Fiction Fridays again as soon as they’re typed and edited. I’m also working on a loose outline for a lesbian romance called “10 Summers” which will be my next FF offering.

I haven’t touched Greenhouse. You can throw rocks at me later.

I am currently working on a small collection of my erotica. When I say “small,” I mean 3-4 stories I plan to put on Amazon all together. I’m trying to match them up so they all kinda fit together but judging from what I’ve seen offered on Amazon in terms of cheap erotica, I could throw them together like mixed nuts and nobody would give a crap.

I’ve been lax with keeping you guys updated on my book reviews. I’ve posted three more (here, here, and here) and I have two more books on deck.

I have also been sketching, crocheting, and knitting. Expect pictures of my crafts to be popping up on here more often. 😉 I don’t sketch fast enough for my Deviant Art or Storm Artist galleries to be updated all the time but with more practice, I’ll get there.

Yes, I effing slipped on the ice again last week. Winter can officially fucking suck it. Please give me Spring before I kill myself. >_<

All in all, for a gal who’s only three months off demanding a divorce, I’m not doing too badly! I’m not writing more to distract from my feelings, I’ve been dealing with my feelings so well, I have more mental energy to write! If I can stop slipping on, hitting, or getting hit by anything for a few months YEARS, I’ll be in good shape here.

Really, Gravity; what did I ever do to you?

Comic Con Swag: Day One

The first day of New York Comic Con went off without a hitch! 😀 I went to a couple panels on graphic novels in libraries then checked out the floor! Of course there was much swag to be had and Lenni does love her swag. Lets start with the swag I paid for:

IMG_3139
Yes, that is a full set of Wet Moon by Ross Campbell. I got this series for the library and I’ve always wanted a set of my own! 😀 Of course there’s a pretty bound Lenore: Cooties by Roman Dirge because I didn’t have that one yet. That little box is steampunk soap with a key in it. XD I’ll post the brand when I locate the card for the place. The scent is amazing!

Now for the free swag!
IMG_3135IMG_3136
I got posters, catalogs, post cards, press on nails, bracelets, and buttons. Man, if I can ever get my kid to behave, that Chibbi Moon poster is all hers. XD

Now, there are no pictures of me because I didn’t dress up. I’m saving my costume till Saturday when me and the family are ALL going dressed up. 🙂 That’s gonna be a marathon day for sure.

I’d go into more detail but holy crap, I’m tired. =_= Till tomorrow!! 😀
