Today’s Workout: Back Tracking

I’m all done with season 9 and there isn’t much of season 10 out yet so, I’m going back to finish the side missions from seasons. I can be a completionist when it comes to these things. And it was a good run; I had to adjust my posture from time to time. I have a bad habit of hunching over and that makes my back hurt.

These were my meals for the day; leftovers for lunch and a salad for dinner. I took the picture before I added croutons, full disclosure. I did add them to my food diary. I just used olive oil and red wine vinegar instead of salad dressing and the cheese was not low-fat. I am not concerned the fat content of a pinch of cheese. I’m looking at the big picture here and treating myself with a bit of cheese is not a big deal. Especially since I’m becoming more active overall.

Today’s Workout: New Recipe

wp-1680215956368

Since I had some salmon I wanted to eat, I was searching around for a recipe to also use some avocado along with it and found this recipe. Of course I find it at work while the salmon is defrosting at home so, the plan became to let the fish marinate while I was doing the above run. By the time I’d finished, cooled down, and taken a shower, the fish would be ready cook!

The soup was my lunch. And the smaller bowl is mine, the bigger one was for the kid.

Of course I had to put my own spin on it by adding chopped garlic to the top of the fish, some sliced onion, and Trader Joe’s Furikake seasoning. All non-sponsored links, of course. This meal was bowl-lickin good. I’ll have to prepare better in advance in the future but WOW. The salmon was perfect, the crunch of the cucumbers and onion was a perfect balance to the soft avocado (which is a sensory nightmare for me). I put some lime juice on the veggies and to keep the avocado from turning brown. I wasn’t getting sick of the usual steamed meat and veggies but I did want more variety in my meals, still be healthy, and not make too much work for myself. Things that require a lot of work to cook mean I’m doing that instead of running on the treadmill. If I prep properly ahead of time, I’ll be able to add more healthy meals to my rotation.

Today’s Workout: Mixed Feelings

wp-1680129707206

Today wasn’t a case of the don’t wannas but more like I want to because I know I’ll feel good and I don’t want to because I wanna just chill out. In the end I (obviously) did my run the moment I walked into the house after work before I could talk myself out of it. And like I’d assumed, I did enjoy it once I got going. And this was a great installment of the story.

I packed the veggies tight in today’s lunch so I was super full. I ended up just snacking for dinner again. I was still at my calorie goal and almost hit my daily step goal so, I deem today a success!

Today’s Workout: Back to it!

wp-1679958707608

I’m back to C25K and Zombies Run and it felt pretty good! I felt a little cramping but I think that’s from taking that week off to do the peddler. My form felt strong, my breathing was fine; all in all an excellent run. Good start to the week.

Lunch was the usual but I ended up using whatever was left of the beef because I could tell it wasn’t going to last another day in the fridge. As a result, I ended up just having a little snack for dinner because I just wasn’t hungry. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about the abs app but I’ll try to remember for the rest of the week.

Today’s Workout: Temptation

I am so glad I picked up running again because out of the blue, the kid decides we need to buy pizza and I needed to burn that off. The rest of what I ate today was my normal type of lunch:

And over the weekend, I made an amazing sandwich:

I marinated the chicken in olive oil, lemon juice, and lemon pepper seasoning and just cooked it in a frying pan. I diced up red onion and mixed it with avocado (and more lemon juice) and as you can see, I had a bunch of cherry tomatoes that I needed to finish before they went bad. I had those as a side instead of chips. I still haven’t mastered what is apparently a daunting task of building a sandwich in a way that doesn’t fall apart if you look at it funny but even though it was a mess to eat, it was delicious. I think I would use a whole chicken breast next time instead of strips so there’s less chances of something falling out.

Over the weekend, I didn’t workout. I had overtime and I had to take apart the dryer hose to fix a blockage. That was not fun. I wasn’t really in the mood after dealing with that.

Today’s Workout: The Usual Spiel

wp-1678148746160

I spoke to my doctor about my high triglycerides and while she’s not too concerned, we’re gonna keep an eye on it. The very nice (slightly nervous) young man training with her gave me the usual advice of more cardio and take fish oil. I guess it’s a good thing I decided to get back into running. I also noticed my blood pressure creeping up, too. I need to take it easy on the salt.

Today I had steak and bok choy for lunch and a salad for dinner. I’m not usually a breakfast person. I usually just have some coffee since I’m just not that hungry first thing in the morning. I was tempted into having a couple Oreos because there was a little party for a friend of mine who’s leaving for another job but I sincerely doubt two cookies are going to destroy my entire day.

I’m still in the first week of c25k and I took my measurements to track my progress in a way that’s not the scale. We’ll see how things go. I have to be a little careful since I have a new piercing to take care of but it’s ok as long as I don’t let it get all sweaty.

Today’s Workouts: Back to it!

wp-1677720462905

In addition to a quick 20 minute session on the desk peddler, I dusted off my running shoes and started C25K once again. I am super excited to get running again and it felt great. I was able to keep form and a decent pace for someone who hasn’t done it in awhile. I plan to do this at least three times a week like the C25K schedule goes and do the desk bike and weights on the other days.

These were my meals for the day. I just did not feel like having a salad at the end of the day and opted instead for pasta with tuna in lemon and olive oil. I have an overabundance of red onion right now so it was a little strong but, it was a light enough meal that I didn’t feel gross running shortly after.

For the record, I don’t have a problem with hydration. I drink plenty of water throughout the day. Soon, I will take the time to record my measurements and see if I can measure progress that way instead of the number on the scale.

Today’s Workout: Week 4 Day 2 and Today’s Dinner

Today was an off day! So, I gave myself a little break and slept in but the first big thing I did was this run. I pumped up the speed in the end and it felt great. My muscles felt like they did some work but I was fine to do some chores after. Cue some meal prep!

Butcher Box and Misfit Market were my inspiration for dinner. Above is a serloin cap steak searing in a cast iron pan with some salt, pepper, garlic, and red chili pepper.

I was searing the steak while the oven heated to about 400F. I tossed in some whole garlic cloves, dried rosemary (I’m too broke for fresh) and unsalted butter (because there’s already salt there) and basted like all those fun Tiktoks you see.

This was after 25 minutes in the oven then I took it out to rest while I did the veggies.

Like I said before, the vegetables from Misfit Market need to be used right away. My delivery was today so, I tossed the brocolli rabe and regular broccoli in the pan and cooked them on the stove.

Steamy, right? I sliced up the meat while the veggies cooked and this was the final stage before plating.

I made myself a small bowl and put the rest in a container for lunch tomorrow. This was so savory and comforting. I did the veggies just long enough so that they retained the crunch that I like, even if I have to reheat them another day.

This was the perfect dinner for a day I do a run. I had just a salad with tuna for lunch before this; super light and easy to make.

I dunno the science behind protein before or after a run but since I don’t really do breakfast (I have gummy vitamins and coffee) it’s usual for me to have food after a run when I’m off for a day and run first thing in the morning. Also, this wasn’t a huge meal prep day. This was more of a big dinner that fed me and the teenager (no clue if they even like this…) tonight with some leftovers for me to use the next day. The amount of food I used wasn’t suited for a week’s worth of food unless I cooked it all in a different way. I had fun cooking this and is totally a meal I’d only make if I had time. This isn’t something to throw in the oven after work and eat while still giving me enough time to workout, do one of the three side hustles I have, get the dishes in the dishwasher, and get to bed at a decent hour.

But the last bit of meal prep I did was a huge hit with the teenager; who demanded I make that more often. Hey, cabbage is cheap. I’ll make that whenever.

Just, in case anyone hears my kid saying I don’t know anything; I had to teach them to put lettuce on the bottom bread before you put the juicy chicken and coleslaw on top to make sure you don’t have a soggy sandwich. This is to the kid who also said they hated sandwiches…

Parenting is a journey, let me tell ya.

I do plan to post an example of how I cook my lunches at work soon!

Today’s Workout: Week 3 Day 1

I’m sad this story is over. After this run, I was futzing around with the app to see what missions I could do next and I guess I figure it out on the spot. There’s SO much I can do while I wait for the next season to drop.

As for the run itself, this week is when the workouts are shorter but the intervals are longer. The minimum number of miuntes for this episode was 31 minutes and the run for c25k was 28 minutes. I just walked the extra time instead of ending early. I didn’t see the point in wasting such a small amount of time.
