Lance Kingley is the new ranch hand at the Lucky Day Ranch. His first task is to breed a high-strung Arabian horse to a thoroughbred mare in heat. During this task, what happens can only be described as surprise butt-sex.

Reading this was like reading a court stenographer’s transcript of a really cheap porn. The setup, the unrealistic boning that isn’t even erotic, then the unrealistic conclusion. It had me questioning what I am doing with my life in reviewing these things but then I remember it’s to warn people against things that waste their time. Like this.

This is the kind of story that makes erotica look bad. I am so glad this story was free as it was barely a story. You don’t learn anything about any of the characters expect for these guys are all horse shifters who fuck and have big dicks. What even happened to the mare? Does she shift too or do they leave the poor thing in the field to suffer in heat alone? And of course, Lance takes all this strange news like it’s Tuesday.

I’d say save your money but since it was free, just save your time and pick something with more story. 1.5 out of 5 is generous since I found it empty but it didn’t incite my rage.

Lenni Reviews: Hayden’s Law by Hurri Cosmo

I got this book for free from All Romance Ebooks.

This short story features Graham, an Omega wolf looking for a place to live far away from the Alphas who have used and abused him. Following an ad for an apartment with other Omegas, Graham ends up at the doorstep of Hyden. Believing him to be another Omega, Graham moves in but Hyden is an Alpha and realizes that Graham is is fated mate. As the mating moon approaches, Hyden is having trouble keeping himself under control and must find as way to tell Graham the truth in a way that will keep the younger man from running away in fear.

I really wanted to like this book but even for a short story, things get wrapped up pretty fast. And I don’t mean in terms of Hyden and Graham being attracted to each other; I mean the jump from accepting the attraction to full on spanking and flogging in the S&M dungeon. Instead of Hyden as an Alpha working to earn Graham’s trust, he just bones the guy senseless so by the next scene, Graham is ok with it. It would have been so interesting to see Graham come to terms with Hyden being Alpha, learning to love and trust again despite Hyden initially hiding the fact he was an Alpha all along. Instead, the power of some man lovin and spanking fixes it all? Killed the rest of the book for me.

Yeah, there is smut and S&M smexy times between two men. Dun like? Dun read.

I give this book a barely earned 3 out of 5 because despite getting it for free, I can see paying about $0.99 for this and not feeling like I wasted my money. The writing isn’t bad but it gets points off for not being terrible yet also not impressive.

Lenni Reviews: Cupid’s Time by Jess Buffett

I got this little short read for free on All Romance Ebooks.

In this short story, concepts in the universe and myths are personified as hot guys: Nate as “Mother” Nature, Nick as Santa, Henry as the Easter Bunny, Thyme as Father Time and Cupid as… Well, Cupid. They call themselves the Keepers. Cupid is at a gay club doing what the personification of love does best; bring people together, when Thyme shows up to needle him about being the youngest of them all. Cupid gets sick of it, tells him off and leaves. It seems Cupid can bring others together but can’t seem to get on the same page as his crush; Thyme.

Here we have the classic couple who love each other, are fates mates (or whatever), but can’t get out of their own way. There is a side plot with Jack Frost causing trouble for the mortal world to throw yet another misunderstanding between the lovers but in general, everything between Thyme and Cupid could be resolved if someone said one simple sentence of explanation. This sort of conflict is so sold hat and very frustrating to read.

Also, smut warning: There is graphic sex and spanking. If that’s not your thing, don’t read this.

Despite that, it’s a cute story with sex scenes that are ok and despite some minor spelling and formatting errors (and the Jack Frost plot being wrapped up behind the scenes instead of writing it out and the fact Thyme is a meh name as an alias instead of Chronos or ANYTHING that didn’t sound like a spice…), the little romance between Cupid and Thyme is a mildly amusing diversion for an afternoon and worth a free read. I’ll give it a 2.9 because when you read as much as I do, the cliche’s bog it down.

Lenni Reviews: Red Moon by Elizabeth Kelly

 After the “Great War” has destroyed a good chunk of the world’s population, humans and supernaturals are trying to live alongside one another. One day Lycan Tristan Williams and his daughter Sophia are out shopping for some new slaves and she guilts him into purchasing Avery Hendrin and her sister. The rub here is that Avery is a Red: red hair and  has magical healing powers. People hate them because they’re witches, blah blah slave, blah blah fairies, what the hell ever.

If I sound disinterested it’s because this story is so blandly typical of a paranormal romance yet hardly believable as even with all the standard tropes; for the couple to be so attracted in less than a day when they have zero chemistry was ridiculous. As Avery is painted as this rebellious woman in one second then a sex crazed, submissive nymph the next. Yeah, I know you have less than 200 pages to get this couple together and work the “scared of magic people” angle but Avery has literally one line of token resistance (that smacks of the creepy “no means yes” vibe) then, BOOM! Panties are off!

Wait, were there panties? *checks* No… No, of course there weren’t.

It’s like this story wants to hit all the beats of a paranormal romance but can’t quite get them in the right order to make it believable or entertaining. Avery is the typical damsel, Tristan is the typical brooder with a secret but it gets super creepy when the concept of Avery’s healing ability working according to how intimate she is with the person she’s healing. Hey! Ever wanted to read a book where the male lead has to watch the woman he wants to bone make out and get felt up by his BROTHER because he’s wounded? Well, shit, here ya go!

I found that concept creepy and I gave up halfway through. Every character is such a flat caricature fulfilling their standard role in this genre, I was bored when I wasn’t squicked out. It was like watching bad porn where they try to shoehorn a plot in. If I wanted that, I’d go borrow Zombie Strippers again (UGH!!). I give this book a 1.5 because I got it for free from Barnes and Noble for my Nook. If I had spent money on this, I would have been really upset.

Writer Wednesday – Writing Check-in!

Happy Wednesday everybody! 😀 I thought I’d try and get in the habit of a weekly check in with you all to let you know how things are going writing wise since I’m sure you’re all chomping at the bit to see more work from me. 😉

First of all, Winter Boot is nearly complete. I have two, maybe three short chapters to go and I’ll get to posting them on Fiction Fridays again as soon as they’re typed and edited. I’m also working on a loose outline for a lesbian romance called “10 Summers” which will be my next FF offering.

I haven’t touched Greenhouse. You can throw rocks at me later.

I am currently working on a small collection of my erotica. When I say “small,” I mean 3-4 stories I plan to put on Amazon all together. I’m trying to match them up so they all kinda fit together but judging from what I’ve seen offered on Amazon in terms of cheap erotica, I could throw them together like mixed nuts and nobody would give a crap.

I’ve been lax with keeping you guys updated on my book reviews. I’ve posted three more (here, here, and here) and I have two more books on deck.

I have also been sketching, crocheting, and knitting. Expect pictures of my crafts to be popping up on here more often. 😉 I don’t sketch fast enough for my Deviant Art or Storm Artist galleries to be updated all the time but with more practice, I’ll get there.

Yes, I effing slipped on the ice again last week. Winter can officially fucking suck it. Please give me Spring before I kill myself. >_<

All in all, for a gal who’s only three months off demanding a divorce, I’m not doing too badly! I’m not writing more to distract from my feelings, I’ve been dealing with my feelings so well, I have more mental energy to write! If I can stop slipping on, hitting, or getting hit by anything for a few months YEARS, I’ll be in good shape here.

Paypal, FAIL!

Paypal is at it again… After the complete B.S. they pulled with Regretsy, now they have turned their sights on independent publishers of erotica. Now, I don’t use Smashwords, I use Createspace but it’s just a matter of time before Paypal sets it’s sights on me as well.

I for one am NOT waiting for PayPal to say “Oops, sorry. That was a poor decision because we are getting shitty press. We change our minds.” I’m switching to WePay. I’m not going to wait for my account to be frozen or have to scream at them to get at my own money.

Am I asking everyone to join me? Not really. This is a free country and people are free to make their own decisions about where they want to spend their money. And because I believe that, and some of my stories are erotic in nature, I believe it people want them, they should have them and that’s it.

I haven’t posted here yet that Gods on the Grey City had been updated and it has been accepted by the Web Fiction Guide so it can be voted upon. The link to vote for it is at the bottom of the page at Web Fiction and a voting link will be up at ATQM very soon. ^_^

Tonight I will be typing up the anthology entry. I have one smutty scene to add to it (the query is for erotic, lesbian steampunk so that’s what I’ll do) and it’s ready for a final edit. I’m anxious to send the query letter out so I’ll either know I’ll be in the anthology, or if I can just post it as a side story to what I have up already. I haven’t even queried and I’m on pins and needles here. @_@

If you like the story, please vote and vote every day. Some blogs out there give reviews on the top 10 or top 5 and I could sure use the exposure. Don’t make the Lenni beg. It’s not pretty. XD

Oh damnit!

I’m sick. That’s the first step to healing, right? Admitting you’re sick? Because usually I just work till I fall down. =_= If it’s bad enough that I actually consider not going to work, you know it’s bad. >_< But isn’t it nice for my co-workers to share their germs with me? :p

If I’m not too dizzy or coughing too much, I plan to hunker down in bed with my notebooks and netbook so I can still have an update this week for you guys. 🙁 I’m still having formatting issues with Create Space but it’s being handled by people who know much more about such things than I do. @_@ I’ll get there, don’t worry. I’m sure you guys are worried. XD

While Ma was in surgery (she’s totally fine), I worked on a Go Away Girls side story for a submission to an anthology. Let me tell you right now it really made me laugh to be sitting in a Catholic hospital writing erotic lesbian steampunk and reading a m/m romance. XD I lol’d. Hard.

Ok, right now, I need to concentrate on keeping the room from spinning to hard. I need to make it to 5 to justify the library keeping me on their payroll and then I can go home and fall down. O_o

Well, Hi there 2011!!

And now begins the three week period of accidentally writing 2010 on everything. :p

I’ve started out this year strong with my food diary and several stories to work on. 🙂 I’m also trying to be less of a lurker in the 50 or so blogs I read. Granted, if I say nothing I don’t sound like an ass but I suppose on occasion, it’s ok to sound like an ass. ^_^ So be prepared to see my link popping up on your pages, kids.

Also, I’ll be adding my erotica section soon. The only thing holding it back is the typing of the story I’ve written so far. I also have an update for Go Away Girls pending and I’m DYIN to work on this library themed dystopian fantasy that’s been kicking around in my head. But let us get the unfinished projects finished first, shall we?

And I’ll be posting more nonsensical crap for you all to enjoy. Can’t forget about that. :p I enjoy nonsensical crap. ^_^
