Workout Dump: It’s that time of year again

NYCC is fast approaching and that means a TON of walking. I’ve scaled back to walking and desk peddler workouts in anticipation of that. NYCC is the only time of year where I get more than 10k steps a day multiple days in a row. I’m already tired I can feel it.

My food hasn’t changed up much, but I’m enjoying varying my protein and vegetables. This is a boring entry… Really, nothing of note to report. Stay safe out there, I guess? See ya’ll after the con!

Today’s Workout: New spice obsession!

Just to spare my joints, I’m taking some long walking days. It’s decent cardio and I can catch up on shows everyone keeps telling me I HAVE to watch (I’m working my way through Supernatural) and my never-ending Watch Later list on YouTube. I may even start writing on the walking days on the treadmill because it’s much easier to squeeze in a few words here and there when I’m not intensely running. Maybe some reading as well since I’m caught up with my ARCs but behind on my other reading.

I’m still doing good when it comes to fruit and prepping different lunches for some variety. Dinner had to be smaller since the medication is doing its job and I had some delicious little tomatoes I had to use up. My latest discovery has been Spicy Pink Salt with Crushed Red Chili Pepper. This shit is AMAZING on the fish and the cracked out tuna salad I made for dinner. I have to be careful with it because I’m not supposed to be eating too much salt anyway and the spice isn’t fooling around but wow. I hope they don’t discontinue this anytime soon because I’m gonna stock up.

Today’s Workout: Timing

I had to go to the post office to mail some of the stuff I’d sold on eBay and I got lucky as there was no line. I got back with plenty of time to eat my chili for lunch. There was also a party at work for someone who’s retiring and oof, I ate waaaaayy too much. But it was fine, I skipped dinner since I was so full. Aside for the walk, I moved around plenty during the day and did some stretching for my hip pain (which is really helping). Even though I’m still not running, I still feel like this was a decent day overall. I didn’t take pictrures of what I ate because it was mostly random stuff aside for repeating the chili.

Today’s Workout: I finally remembered

wp-1686069343794

Going out to take a walk is starting to become routine when I’m off. I like not spending the entire day in the house and I’m slowly looking more alive. I think it’s also helping my mood, overall. I feel like I accomplished something in my day.

I have also made it a point not to sleep in too much and actually make breakfast. This had the unintended side effect of me not being hungry until dinner, where I made oven baked wings and made fried rice from the left over rice from yesterday. I managed to get the wings super crispy and juicy and I think it’s because I was able to marinate them for a couple hours; prepping in a way that isn’t as easy when I have to go to work. I guess I need to work on my time management in the future.

Today’s Workout: Uhoh…

wp-1685726682666

I took a nice long walk to the store today. It was gorgeous out, I needed to pick up a few things from the store, so I left the car at home and hoofed it. Completely worth it and it felt so good to get out of the house. I can already tell my skin is finally losing that pasty ‘librarian who is always indoors’ tone.

The problem? I ended up needing to put on the air conditioner. All I can think of whenever I turn that thing on for the first time in the year is how big my electric bill will be (have mercy on me and check out my books). As the weather heats up, I know taking a walk outside won’t be as comfortable as it is now (unless I go very early in the morning). The treadmill and desk bike are gathering dust so, I’ll switch to those when it gets really hot.

One of the things I grabbed at the store is more of that pre-prepped chicken from Trader Joes for my salads. Yes, that is a lot of cheese. No, I don’t care what you think. If in the end I’m still around 1000 calories (remember, I’m on Saxenda so, my calories are kept lower than a normal diet) and I’ve had some decent activity during my day, Imma eat some damn cheese.

This was my main meal for the day, other than snacking. I’m gonna try and be more diligent on peal prep on my non-work days. Work days, I’m super prepared; I can fill in my food diary first thing in the morning because I already know what the rest of the day will be. When I’m off, it’s chaos. We’ll see how that goes in the future.

Today’s Workout: Not quite…

wp-1684938285369

I decided to take a lunch walk today and it’s not quite the weather to go outside without a sweater. Not that I want it to be super hot; I loathe the heat. By the time I was done, I’d warmed up pretty good and I managed to score some veggies on sale.

For lunch I gave these garlic noodles a try. They were not good. They were overly sweet yet somehow tasteless at the same time. It’s a shame but I ended up tossing it without finishing it all.

For dinner, I was craving a chicken Caesar salad. I used the grilled lemon pepper chicken from Trader Joe’s that comes already cooked and it was so good. Much better than the noodles. Combined, it was a high salt day, but I am a very hydrated person so I didn’t bloat too much. I was even able to get the cheese for this on sale! Hey, I’m broke so, I’ll take whatever savings I can get.

Today’s Workout: Sticker Shock

wp-1674236829730

I had a craving for the particular bagel with tuna from this one place by my job that has mayo-free lemon tuna that’s just delicious. And it gives me a chance to take a longer walk on my lunch break. But this time, instead of it being about $7-$8, it was $12. As much as I want to support small businesses, I literally can’t afford to spend $12 on a sandwich.

Since my birthday is coming up, I think I’m going to treat myself to a new bread maker (my current on is on it’s last legs) and make bagels at home when I want to have them. I have done it before and the dough setting on the machine saves my hands from getting sore and the ones I made tasted exactly like store bought. Maybe if I make the kind of money I need to be making with my books I can treat myself but in the meantime, I just can’t justify it.

Today’s Workouts: Moving around more

In addition to the desk bike, I had to pop over to the store to get the ingredients to make that steak sandwich again. The kid really liked it and avocados were on sale.

I thought that doing the bike and talking that walk would be too much but I was ok! And getting in those extra steps is always good. I just feel a little sore from the kettlebell yesterday and carrying the heavy grocery bag on my shoulder on the walk back. I saw some canned stuff on sale and the kid has been whining that I haven’t made meat sauce in awhile. So, I guess that’s how I’ll be spending my weekend.

Today’s Workout: Triple Threat

In addition to using the under desk peddler, I had to walk up to the store to get hot sauce (my kid is obsessed) and some sesame oil (that’s getting expensive so not buying that for awhile…), I picked up the kettle bell after a super light dinner. My only cheat was a small portion of Tipsy Scoop for dessert. Raspberry Limoncello Sorbet, if you’re curious. Very nice as a cap to the evening.

I am really feeling these arm workouts. I think I’m back in the head space where the soreness is letting me know I’m doing a good thing for my body. The sad part is I’d skipped weight training for so long, I have a moment where I think “Wait, why am I sore again?” before my stupid brain makes the logistical leap.

All I need to do is my 50 squats and stretch before bed and the day is done! I have the feeling with more days like this I’ll get back on track.

Today’s Workout: And an affordable dinner.

wp-1651599488984

Since I am taking care of a teenager who did not see a bag of chips and a jar of salsa as a snack but as a meal (I am still dumbfounded they finished the whole thing) I used my lunchtime to walk over to the store to see if I can find some on sale. It was a beautiful day, I didn’t even need a sweater so, I had a nice quick walk. And, I was able to replenish my supplies.

wp-1651621998301

I made chicken thighs over the weekend so I chopped one up and put in a tortilla with some cheese. I got the tortillas for 2 for $5, I got the salsa 2 for $4, the cheese for 2 for $4, and the chips for 2 for $5. I don’t math so it’s just a filling cheap meal, okay? And to spice things up, I sprinkled Tajin in the salsa.

Is a plate of carbs and cheese healthy? Not really… But hey, it was quick, tasty, enjoyable, and I didn’t break the bank at the grocery store. And heck, I likely burned off half the cheese walking to the store.

If I can keep the kid from eating the chips and salsa in one sitting, it will last awhile, too.
