HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!

I hope everyone is recovered from all the rip-roaring parties. ;D

I’ve been thinking about what I want accomplished this year and I’ve decided I’m really going to make this year my own. No whining, no excuses… Well, maybe a little bitching but no excuses. I want to finish one short story every month and have book three done by the end of the year. I also wanna lose 10 pounds, which pretty much puts me on an even keel with every other person in the world. 😉

With that in mind, I am off to work! Looking forward to this year. I know it will be better than the last. 😉

Scariest Thing About Being A Writer

It could be waiting to hear back about a submission, it could be editing, or it could be the horror of a blank page accompanied by a complete lack of ideas. But the fear I’ve been dealing with lately is this:

IMG_20130905_143729_970

IMG_20130905_143752_054

See those dates? Unreal… >_<

Those are two paranormal romances I’m working on right now. Short ones I can edit fast and sell for a buck or two but WOW. I sure am taking fucking forever to finish them. 9_9

So, where once I had them in my Google Drive to just pick at whenever, I have printed them out and I’m gonna go at them wholesale. I’m sorta stuck in First Brood 3 and I’m avoiding the formatting on Brood 2 (because we hatezez it…) so there’s no excuse not to get SOMETHING done, right?

Right. 🙂

Writer Wednesday – Writing Check-in!

Happy Wednesday everybody! 😀 I thought I’d try and get in the habit of a weekly check in with you all to let you know how things are going writing wise since I’m sure you’re all chomping at the bit to see more work from me. 😉

First of all, Winter Boot is nearly complete. I have two, maybe three short chapters to go and I’ll get to posting them on Fiction Fridays again as soon as they’re typed and edited. I’m also working on a loose outline for a lesbian romance called “10 Summers” which will be my next FF offering.

I haven’t touched Greenhouse. You can throw rocks at me later.

I am currently working on a small collection of my erotica. When I say “small,” I mean 3-4 stories I plan to put on Amazon all together. I’m trying to match them up so they all kinda fit together but judging from what I’ve seen offered on Amazon in terms of cheap erotica, I could throw them together like mixed nuts and nobody would give a crap.

I’ve been lax with keeping you guys updated on my book reviews. I’ve posted three more (here, here, and here) and I have two more books on deck.

I have also been sketching, crocheting, and knitting. Expect pictures of my crafts to be popping up on here more often. 😉 I don’t sketch fast enough for my Deviant Art or Storm Artist galleries to be updated all the time but with more practice, I’ll get there.

Yes, I effing slipped on the ice again last week. Winter can officially fucking suck it. Please give me Spring before I kill myself. >_<

All in all, for a gal who’s only three months off demanding a divorce, I’m not doing too badly! I’m not writing more to distract from my feelings, I’ve been dealing with my feelings so well, I have more mental energy to write! If I can stop slipping on, hitting, or getting hit by anything for a few months YEARS, I’ll be in good shape here.

Really, Gravity; what did I ever do to you?

Writer Wednesday – A Writing Update

Ahh, it’s such a relief to not have to sit and worry about that driving test anymore. I’m also back to working out so things are really coming together. 🙂

For a little bit, I’ve put Gods in the Grey City up for free for Prime members over on Kindle. For how long? I have no idea. It was random for me to decide to do this in the first place.

I have resumed editing of Greenhouse (the follow up to Dreamhunter) and I’m saving the short stories for next month where I once again attempt my personal Short Story Experiment 2012! 😀 The deal with that is to just finish as many short stories as I can within the month of November. Typed or written, doesn’t matter. I just wanna see if I can finish a bunch of stories given the proper motivation. ;D

That’s about all I’ve got today. Remember; if you’ve read or liked my work, please leave a review. I’ll post a bunch of comic con stuff when I get the pictures organized. 😉

I’m BACK! >D

After a semi-restful weekend (how restful is a birthday party for a 3 year old, really?) I have traced the headache problems to lack of sleep and lack of sleep to the snoring of my dear ole’ hubbz. Short of kicking him out to sleep on the couch, I’m not gonna sleep well with him in the bed till he sees a doctor or I smother him with a pillow. Whichever comes first.

In writing news, the two small stories I’m working on are moving along well, Dark Horse enjoyed my last review, and I’m excited to start my Short Story Project next month instead of doing NaNoWriMo. Edits for book two are proceeding slowly but steadily and I hope for the preview chapters to be going up on the site soon. As soon as I have them all perfect and pristine, they’ll start going up. 🙂 Are you excited? I sure am. I’ve been picking at book two for YEARS now!

That’s all I’ve got so far. Eventually I’ll catch up with the Pagan Blog thing but probably not this week with Comic Con right around the corner. I would like to get through the whole thing, ya know?

Introducing Fiction Friday

In a shameless attempt to whore out my writing talents and sell more books, I will be starting some side stories and posting them for free, one chapter at a time, every Friday. Eventually, they will be collected to post on my website and in print when they are all completed and pretty like.

I will start this with a story I’ve been kicking around for years now called “Winter Boot.” Believe it or not, it’s a children’s story. This is shocking for those who know how much erotica and other completely unsuitable for general audiences material I tend to work on.

On that note, here’s chapter one. 😉

Winter Boot: A Fanciful Fable – Chapter One

It was warm the day my father died. It’s been winter ever since.

I knew Daddy had magic. He chased away the monsters under my bed, flipped pancakes, and reached high shelves to get treats for me. But I didn’t think he held back the snow.

“Boot!” That’s not the name Mama gave me. Auntie just calls me that. I don’t remember my real name anymore, the one Mama gave me when she gave me her life. “Have you finished your chores?”

I haven’t done anything amazing with the life she gave me. I shovel snow, feed the dogs, fetch wood for the stove (so we can save on gas, you see). So I don’t blame Auntie for being mad all the time. If my sister died for something, I’d want it to be amazing. I should be as amazing as the stories I hear about people going outside with sun dresses instead of snow shoes, bonnets instead of heavy fur hoods, and even swimming! The lake is frozen now. And ice fishing is not amazing.

“Yes, Auntie. The dogs are fed, the porch is clear, and the woodpile is covered for the next storm.” She works hard at the local bank, making all the money for the house. She’s not as strong as I am, she tells me all the time. “Your back is only 8 years old! You can take some of the work from my 56 year old legs!” She said. I don’t mind. House chores keep me warm and the dogs are so big, they walk me.

“Good. Now go get yourself fed and bathed. No time for me to help you since I’ve been on my feet all day.” She says on her way up to her bed. All I see is a flash of nightgown as I get up from the floor, close my book, and head into the kitchen.

There are dishes in the sink. Auntie already ate while I was out with the dogs, I guess. I reach the cabinets I can, finding some crackers and bread. I make a nice sandwich with some of the turkey in the fridge with cheese and crackers. It’s not so bad, eating with nothing but the wind outside. I think I used to eat with Daddy, helping him stir his famous sauce and watching his hands as he chopped vegetables. The scraps always went outside for the rabbits. Auntie hates the rabbits. I sneak them anything I can.

After I clean the kitchen, I take all the food scraps to the pile in the back yard. It’s not easy for the animals ever since the sun went away. At school, they tell us we should share so they survive. But it’s more so we can eat them. I just like to see the flashes of color against the white and gray of the snow and cold. The dogs sneak some, dancing around me when I head out the door, but I shoo them inside. They are spoiled to pieces, warm and cozy and fed scraps from the meal before it’s even done. The wild ones get the rest. It’s only fair.

I see a brown shape bounding through the leafless bushes against the back fence once I’m sure the dogs will stay inside. Little dark eyes watch me step off the back steps and walk to the back of the yard.

I only watch it out of the corner of my eye, because rabbits run if they can tell you’re looking. I’d run, too, especially since we make stew out of so many. It looks at me like I’m a hunter as I plod in my winter boots across the frost covered grass to leave the scraps as far from the door as I can. When I turn to leave, I make sure my back is to the rabbit so it sees there’s nothing to fear.

“Many thanks, lady.” A voice calls out to me and I can’t help but spin so fast, I land right on my tush. Auntie smacked me a good one for saying “butt” just once before I learned my lesson.

“Be careful there!” Another little voice yells. “You’ll crack your head right open like that, kid.”

I blink snow out of my eyes and sure enough, a brown and white hare is staring at me. On his back is the tiniest frog I’ve ever seen, clinging to the rabbit’s fur with strong, webbed fingers. “How can you… I mean you’re not supposed to-”

“Talk? It’s not supposed to snow year round, either.” Frog says to me. He’s right. And I’ve pretended tons of other things before so this isn’t so bad.

“Most don’t listen.” Rabbit says. “But I didn’t expect my thanks to knock you on your keister.”

“You’re welcome.” I whisper, getting up on my feet again. “It must be hard to find food now.”

“Well, Rabbit here keeps my feet warm and lets me eat whatever bugs manage to get in his fur.” Frog leans over to inspect the scraps. “And he gives me shelter since the lake froze up. Lotsa us water folk ran off after that.”

“And you always leave the best stuff. And I can see why now that I look at you. You’re thin as the branches on the ground. All coat and mittens.”

“I don’t need much. Auntie gives the dogs so much of her food, they’re spoiled. I can share with you guys.” A nasty wind cuts right through me and I shiver hard, almost biting my tongue as I try to talk.

“Go on inside, skinny. You’ll freeze.” Frog scolds me, leaning in close to Rabbit’s fur. Her voice shivers like mine but she’s got no teeth to chatter.

Nodding, I race into the house, waving to my figments as I go. “I’ll leave more tomorrow!” I call to them as I push back the dogs and go back inside. It’s fun to have friends, even if they aren’t real. I’m usually too busy with chores for Auntie to let me go play. I giggle to myself at the thought Frog on Rabbit’s back bounding though the snow. What a pair they make!

My current list of WIP’s

Inspired by a conversation via Twitter with my friend at Flames and Flowers, here is a list of my current Works In Progress in order to really drive home the reason why I am so overwhelmed, I need to outline:

  1. Winter Boot: A short story which, compared to my other works, is fairly kid friendly. This is all plotted out but needs to be written.
  2. Go Away Girls: The Silver Slide: A novel length steampunk lesbian story starring these ladies. This novel is started but still in the starting phase.
  3. First Brood: Greenhouse: The sequel to Dreamhunter. This novel is about halfway done but needs a TON of editing.
  4. Dijinn story: another in this universe but is still in the brainstorm stage.
  5. Suicide Troopers: scripts for this comic I’m working on with my friend. This will be an ongoing project.
  6. Untitled sci-fi/fantasy m/f novel: This may be an erotic one. I’m not sure. This is still in the outlining stage.
  7. Untitled horror short story: I have two pages of this written and no plans whatsoever. I need to make them. >_<
  8. A list of erotic short story submission ideas about 12 deep as of today. I may get more soon. I just compile them for whenever I have a chance to work on that.
  9. Sketch practice so I can add more to my Deviant Art gallery, my Storm Artists gallery, and my Zazzle shop.

And I’m fairly certain there’s something I’m forgetting. Yes, I have a full time job, overtime, housework, and a 4 year old. Yes, I am clusterfuck crazy. Scary, isn’t it?

There was a time, when I was a younger gal, where I could mentally keep all this straight with only a few notes. But the worlds are getting so expansive with so much detail, I’ve had to use outlines to keep the parameters straight and make sure one world doesn’t seep into the other by mistake.

I  have a writing planner AND I utilize Asana to keep on schedule with an ADDITIONAL daily alarm on my phone to ensure I meet (or TRY to meet) my daily goal of 4 pages a day. Sometimes I sit in bed, literally encircled by notebooks as I bounce from one story to another to get those 4 pages.

And somewhere in here, I’m supposed to lose 20 pounds and to a book challenge? Why do I get the feeling I’m setting myself up to fail here. 0.0

Happy November! And a new round of calls…

Yes, I’m still trying to make sure we get Ma’s business all closed up so I spent my morning nursing a chocolate hangover and calling about her missing pension payments.

Not to whine but those payments will be what helps pay the mortgage and I need them. I do not make enough money on my own to cover the payments and while Ma was alive, we were splitting them. It’s made the last few months tight but I’ve been managing. I take a lot of overtime and the few stories I’ve been selling have kept me just above freakout level.

But that won’t last forever. :/

I know a lot of people have it worse than me. I’m just complaining a little. :p

In writing news, it’s still short story central for me. But it has shaken something lose for Greenhouse so I’m sure I’ll be getting to that soon. 🙂

Blessed Samhain!

And a Happy Halloween to all the non-Pagans out there! 😀 (click here for a lazy Wikipedia link to what Samhain is)

I have no particular plans other than to take the kid out for trick-or-treating and hand out candy. I would usually have a Dumb Feast but I’m still in the “This is the first holiday without Ma.” place so I’m skipping it this year.

I am going to be writing this afternoon while the kiddo is in school. I’m working on a contest entry since I’m still stuck in the vampire novel. I hope futzing around with some short stories will shake something lose! That is one good thing about working on more than one thing at a time. You may be stuck in one project but you have three others to fall back on. XD

New story up! :D

Gods in the Grey City is available for download on Kindle for $1.99!! 😀 My empire is growing!! BWAHAHAA!! XD

Seriously, I’m glad to have more up there for people to buy. 🙂 And now that it’s for sale, I won’t have to bug anyone to vote for it up at top webfiction anymore. Maybe I’ll come up with something else to put there, I dunno. It doesn’t seem to be doing much for my traffic. This doesn’t mean I’ll stop having some free goodies for you guys. And you’ll also notice there’s no cover. I figured I would rather get the story THERE than sit on it and wait for cover art. I’ll upload a cover whenever I get one. :p

Now, I’m going to concentrate on getting Greenhouse done and the entry for that contest over at Otakus and Geeks. Then there’s some open ended submissions for some other anthologies I’d like to try for, as well. It all depends on how much time I have and how Greenhouse flows.

With a hurricane coming, I may have more time that I bargained for. Can’t do laundry if the power goes out. :/ I think once I get through the legal crap from Ma’s passing, I’ll buy a generator. I’ll just feel safer. ._. Not that we’re gonna get really slammed here but still. You never know. Last time we had a long term power outage (last year, I forget what month) it was a tree branch taking out a power line that did it. Can happen anytime so I’d like to be prepared.

Next week, I’ll be on vacation. ^_^ In order to get a proper break, I need to leave the state so I’ll be headed to VA. I may post, I may not. But I will of course, take plenty of pictures. 🙂
