January Loot Crate: Origins

  • Mario Bros. Shirt
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pin
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tiki Mug
  • Captain America Shield Replica
  • Superman Action Comics

My favorite item here is the shirt. Not only is that my actual birth year, it’s MARIO. The pin is cute, the mug is like a shot glass, really, and shield is cute, and I’m keeping that comic in the plastic because I’m paranoid, but that shirt is the star here.

The only thing I dislike about this crate is it makes me feel old as fuck… But that can’t be helped.

I don’t know exactly what I would have expected from an ‘origins’ crate but this stuff is ok. It seems a little light on items overall but that Mario shirt makes me too happy to care.

I was talking with a patron about the sad state of live action video game movies and he mentioned this to me. So, I give it a try and… Well…

This movie goes into Ken and Ryu’s training in the mountains with their master and while, yes; this movie is much better than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Dragonball, and BloodRayne, I have to say this was very boring.

I understand these are video game avatars before they are characters but they are so cliche and predictable, I couldn’t even find it funny. Whoever made Ken’s wig was clearly out to torture the actor. I know that’s what the game character looks like but I have true difficulty believing any person – especially a martial artist whose survival may depend on a clear field of vision – would leave that much hair hanging in their face all the time.

Even though it’s campy, predictable, and somehow so slow I was bored enough to fall asleep (I never made it to disk 2), I can tell there was more effort, pride, and care in this movie than in any other movie I’ve mentioned in this post. I wanted to like this, I really did; but I just felt tired during this; wondering what book I could be reading. And that’s a shame, too. It’s a pretty movie to look at and, like I said, effort was obviously made to make something cool for the genre.

Uhoh, Lenni Want’s to be on YouTube

If you’ve been keeping up with me on Facebook or on Twitter or even here, you may notice I’m all up in YouTube with the gaming walkthroughs will commentary. CrazyShootin started it all and now I’m on TheRadBrad, inLove, and agentjr watching games that I haven’t gotten to play or want to play… Or have been ruined for me by my ex. But that’s a long and depressing story. :p

Now, I am DYIN to get the tech necessary to record myself playing these games because hilarity ensues when I get frustrated or scared of these things. Also, what better platform to talk about my life than horror games? ;D It would be a much more comfortable way for me to start a vlog since that’s the thing people do these days. Playing the games gives something for my adoring public to watch instead of my face.

Yeah, I’m late to the party train with all of this but I kinda don’t care. Watch or not, it’s up to you. I’m still saving up the money for the tech to do this and for a PS4 (the release date for Silent Hills isn’t till next year! I have time!) so don’t count on it going up right away. But it’s coming!

I suppose the main reason for me to want to do this is because I enjoy watching others so much, I’d like to add my voice to the cacophony, as it were. I don’t plan for it to make any money or for me to be particularly good at it or for me to upload all the time (as you can see I don’t even update my regular blog very much), but I think it would be fun!

What I’ve Been Up To

For some strange reason, after reading my reviews some publishers dare to offer their work to me. The last four I’ve received were:

And some… Some I’ll do for the heck of it (which is why I’m surprised I get any books to review anymore):

And of course editing is happening little by little. I’ve been really plugging away at everything so stay tuned!!

Devil May Cry: The Complete Series – Anime Review

I was so excited to get this dvd collection as a big fan of the first two games. Sadly, this anime is completely forgettable. Even the battle scenes and gratuitous posing are standard anime fair. I would have liked to see the plot from the games play out without risking dying in the game play and I was very disappointed.

Speaking as a girl gamer/geek, I was also let down by every major female character. Lady and Trish are so freakin annoying! Patty is a little girl. She’s supposed to be annoying at times when its convenient to the plot but the hunters are catty poseaholics who live only to cause Dante trouble and drive him deeper in to debt. They seem to help him only by accident.

And don’t get me started on Dante being a perpetually poor demon PI. If I want that, I’ll get the DVD set of Dresden.

All in all, I’m glad I borrowed this form a library instead of buying it. It’s so very bland and formulaic I would have kicked myself for spending the money.
