Today’s Workout: Chases!

wp-1661207992369

That’s right! I’m back to Zombies Run! This time, with chases on. It only made me do one chase this time and it wasn’t so bad. I managed not to get caught and lose any supplies.

I can definitely tell it’s been awhile since I’ve had a good run and it felt great to get back in my running shoes. The only way to get used to it again is to get back into the habit of running at least three days a week just for 30 minutes because I have to get writing for the rest of the night.

It helps that with the Saxenda, I really only have a snack for dinner. If I eat breakfast, cook my lunch at work, then I’m not really that hungry when I get home. And I’m not about to force myself to eat if I’m not hungry.

I still have to do my stretches. I noticed some cramping in my calves when I was running; probably because of all the walking I did over the weekend so I NEED to stretch as much as I can. I’ll do the body weight stuff but only a light workout. I still wanna be able to move tomorrow.

Lenni Reviews” The Walking Cat: A Cat’s-Eye-View of the Zombie Apocalypse” Vols. 1-3, by Tomo Kitaoka

This manga follows a white cat Yuki as he tags along with various survivors of a zombie apocalypse.

This has all the emotional ups and downs of a zombie survival story but with a revolving cast of protagonists. It’s not exclusively from Yuki’s perspective but he’s the one that connects the human characters. The people we follow are interesting and using the cat as a way to flow between them is done very well. It may seem silly to think of a person fighting a horde for a cat but if I can suspend disbelief for zombies, I can suspend it for this, too. The art style is excellent, versatile enough to handle both the cutesy and disgusting with just as much detail. If you’re looking for something a little different for your zombie content fix, this is a great read. 4.7 out of 5.

Lenni Reviews: “Crueler Than Dead” Vol 2, by Tsukasa Saimura & Kozo Takahashi

Maki along with Miura, Yugo, and Shota bring the last of a vaccine against the zombie virus to a supposed sanctuary called The Dome. When they arrive, they find it corrupt and disgusting, a place where the elite live in luxury and the rest life a desperate life of starvation and squalor. The leader, Colonel Shimamoto, believes the vaccine will save humanity but only in the way he deems fit.

If you’ve ever read any zombie story ever where the main crew goes to where they believe there is hope and shelter, you know how this plays out. Corruption, exploitation, and sorrow. It’s almost comical how poorly things go so fast to the point where you wonder how those rich assholes managed to have any control in the first place. There’s plenty of gore and character growth but this felt very shallow. Maybe using The Walking Dead as an inspiration wasn’t such a good idea. Maki is the most interesting thing about this series and if there is more, I hope they stick with her. 3 out of 5.

Maki Akagi wakes up half-naked and injured in an underground bunker with a young boy who seems ill. Unsure of where she is, Maki is shocked by an injured soldier who tells her that the boy and Maki are the last results of an experiment to cure the zombie-infested city above them and this place has the last of an experimental vaccine. Maki takes the boy with her to deliver the samples to a refugee center in the hopes a lab there can replicate it and save humanity.

This is a pretty good zombie manga. Maki is a great character and while the side stories are good, I’d like it better if more time was spent on her. Other than that, it’s a typical zombie horror story with all the tropes such a story includes. The art does a great job of making the undead disgusting and scary. Worth checking out if you like these. 3.7 out of 5.

Akira has returned to his parent’s village which has withstood the zombie hordes so far, only to have his former classmate, Kanta Higurashi show up with a gang and hundreds of of the undead to kill everyone.

I still adore how this series manages to balance lightheartedness with the zombie threat. One never detracts from the other. Akira and his group are so fun to follow through this adventure and to genuinely feel as if they are in real danger. In this volume there are a couple action scenes were the art was kinda chaotic and it took me a minute to figure out what happened but this series is cool. Totally check it out. 5. out of 5.

Akira and Kencho are now working on the bucket list together and in their quest for a new TV stumble upon a group of survivors.

I still love Akira’s positive energy in what is a dire situation (that usually goes the way most zombie stories go). I do hope Shizuka Mikazuki (who makes an appearance) joins our main pair permanently. The way they all interact would make for some great story telling. 4 out of 5.

Akira Tendo has a crappy job, a crappy apartment, no time for friends or a girlfriend and hates waking up every morning. Until one day he looks out his window and hordes of zombies are everywhere… And breathes a sigh of relief that he doesn’t have to go to work. The zombie apocalypse gives Akira a chance to life again and he makes a list of 100 things he wants to do before he becomes a zombie.

In a genre so saturated it’s collapsing in on itself with sheer redundancy, this is an original and hilarious idea. Akira is funny and dynamic, making a story about the end of humanity by flesh eating monsters enjoyable and light hearted. I can’t wait to see how this goes! 5 out of 5.

Today’s Run? Turkey Trot!

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate, I sympathize with your Day of Mourning to those who partake, and I empathize with those who drink and eat heavily because you can because fuck it.

Today, we had duck and baby broccoli!

And I had a great time teaching the kiddo how to slice garlic. And roast garlic… Look, we stink today. Deal with it.

I may have gorged myself on delicious meat and crunchy skin but I did my run!!

Today was week 10 day 2 and I got in the spirit by catching up on Z Nation while running.

Yeah, I think it’s better than Walking Dead. Fight me. I dare you.

I didn’t set any records but even though I didn’t wanna bother today and use my time to sleep in, I got my fat ass up and went to run before I did any cooking or drinking.

Now… As I am full and tired, and sore, and tipsy, I shall leave you with whatever feelings you have about this day. Even if its just Thursday.

Today’s Run: Ramping it up?

IMG_20181107_195545_409.jpg

This run is week 8 day 2 of C210k. It starts with a 5-minute warmup, a 29-minute run, then a 5-minute cooldown. And I did it! I ran the full 29 minutes.

It’s tomorrow I’m worried about. Week 8 day 3 is a full 5k run without stopping. Why would I be worried if I do 5k races all the time? Because I usually do my walk/run or run to 10 combos. This time no breaks for me.

If I can make this, it would be a major victory for me. I’ve been running for two years or so and never made it much past 3.5 miles with breaks. LOTS of breaks. If my endurance is up to the task, a 10k may actually really be in my future! And finishing a 10k was one of my goals for the year!

Also, I am FINALLY done with season 3! There are currently 7 seasons of Zombies Run! and I’ve been trying to catch up to the end so I can fiddle around with supply missions and try out an airdrop mission. There’s also all the Radio Abel content. My completionist’s itch is driving me crazy.

Wish me luck tomorrow! I’m sure I’ll be hurting by the end of it no matter what happens.

Zombies Run Virtual Race: Spring 2018

With the clock ticking, I hopped on the treadmill today and ran my virtual race!

img_20180426_094925_9051555563151.jpg

At first, I wasn’t happy with my time. I thought I could finish in under 50 minutes and in the end, I didn’t quite make it. I felt like I needed too many walk breaks that slowed me down. But after I grumbled and hung up my medal;

It’s cute!

I went to see my results on the leaderboard and for shits and giggles, I checked my time on my previous races. Not counting the Halloween one where I had to walk it because my knee was messed up; I compared my results from the first virtual race I ran and I was faster! Through all the damn bullshit with hurting my knee and the surgery and all that hard work and determination paid off! The 2017 race I finished in 50:50 and my leaderboard says I finished the 2018 race in 49:36!

Seeing those numbers completely lifted me out of my self-hatred at being a lazy blob and now I feel kinda awesome! Even with all the hiccups, I am getting stronger and faster.

This has me super psyched! I am SO ready to kick ass and do even better!
