October Writing Update

IMG_20171016_164648.jpg

Ohh, baby!! Get ready!!

Something in my brain clicked and I have been pounding away at book 3. I ran through my second round of edits in one day because I was so excited to get it done.

In fact, I am SO excited that the first two chapters of Lost Brother will be posted – for patrons only – over on my Patreon page the second they are cleaned up.

Please note: You won’t really get what’s going on with the story unless you’ve read the first two books; links to my books on Amazon and Barnes and Noble are on the sidebar of this blog.

I am so PUMPED for this, I cannot even tell you. My beta reader (bless her heart as she endures my harassment) has told me how terrifying she finds this new threat and I can’t wait for you all to meet him.

Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly: Disney Villains

IMG_20171004_070031496.jpg

  • Ursula earrings
  • Evil Queen bracelet
  • Maleficent necklace
  • Maleficent keychain
  • Villains magnet
  • Villains 4 x 6 art print
  • Poison Apple headband

I love this collection. Thre isn’t much more to be said. XD

The art is great, the item selection is as good as always and I love the little extra of the Evil Queen button. With all my running lately, I’ve been needing more headbands. I’ll  have to be careful with this one so I don’t mess it up.

The earrings and necklace are perfect for Halloween wear. There are only so many black cats and grinning pumpkins you can cycle through before it feels repetitive. And I’m sure this is no accident. Villains are the perfect theme for October. I would have liked to see something with Jafar or Chernabog from Night on Bald Mountain. After all, the theme is “Villains” not “Evil Queens.” Just because it’s a female-centered box, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have loved a charm of Jafar’s staff or something like that. But, I bet that’s just me.

Writing/Review Update

You all may have noticed I haven’t been posting as often and that is because I am:

  1. Prepping for NYCC
  2. Working my way through some longer books
  3. Writing and editing some short stories

Don’t worry, I am ABSOLUTELY working and working a LOT. I am perpetually exhausted (especially since one book I finished nearly broke my brain). I plan is to get back to daily posting once these longer books are done.

And yes, Lost Brother has been on a hiatus while I finish these short stories. Why? Whelp, to be completely honest, I need the money. First Brood is a great series but it’s just not selling like the short stories are. As a result, I need more of those. Like with the blog posts, my hope is to write a bunch of them so I can publish them monthly or weekly (I haven’t decided which yet) and unfortunately, I have to prioritize paying the mortgage and keeping the lights on over my passion projects. It sucks but, sorry guys. I gotta do the adulting thing.

The project WILL get done. You all WILL get book three. You’ll just have to put up with some shorter stories first.

September Birchbox

IMG_20170921_113102973

This box was kinda random to me but the collection is all things I will actually use. I am all into the anti-aging and skin protection right now but lip stuff is not usually in the equation. And I had to look up what the heck a strobing pencil was. When I first looked at it, I thought it was eye liner or lip liner to go with the lip gloss.

That’s why I continue to get these boxes. I usually have no clue such things even exist much less what to use them for. I am honestly afraid to put that on my face because I am CONVINCED I will use it wrong.

I did finally use the Matrix shampoo from the January box, and I did like how it made my hair feel after repeated colorings and liberal use of the flat iron. I didn’t feel any build up and the conditioner was potent enough to get though my thick hair. But would I shell out $25 for it? Nope, not when I can get V05 for $0.33 when it’s on a good sale.

J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World Crate

  • MACUSA desk supply set
  • Honeydukes eraser set
  • Harry Potter’s wand pen
  • Ravenclaw scarf
  • Slazar Slytherin’s locket pin

I honestly feel like these guys are listening to me when I always say to put stationary items in the crates. How awesome is it to put an office memo on Magical Congress stationary!? And have awesome pens and erasers? I love getting things I can actually USE rather than have figures and dolls all vying for space in my house. Collectables are nice but having them EVERYWHERE is clutter and there are only so many t-shirts I can wear.

Even though I probably shouldn’t spare the expense, I found this crate to be worth the money! I love what I’m getting.

August Loot Crate: “Kingdoms”

  • Link classic shirt
  • Adventure Time Nice King and Gunter figure
  • Lord of the Rings color changing glass
  • shield pin
  • Ent and hobbits art print

It took me WAY too long to realize the shirt had the picture in the actual shape of Link in that shot of the level in the game. I am convinced I’m going senile at an early age.

My favorite items are from Lord of the Rings. I already picked a spot in my office for the print and I can see sipping some nice cold wine out of the glass. The Nice King is very cute, but I haven’t taken the plunge to watch Aventure Time yet so it’s not having as much of an impact on me as it should. I will get around to it though!

Oh Texas…

I may not get thousands of people flocking to my blog but I would still like to help in any way that I can. From now until the month of September 2017, anything purchased in my shop over at That Sinking Ship will go to help those affected by hurricane Harvey.

Kal Elle Monthly: “Sherlock”

IMG_20170831_113650177

I’m not big into Sherlock but this stuff is pretty cool! This box contains:

  • Socks
  • “You’re my Watson” “You’re my Sherlock” key chains
  • Sherlock necklace
  • Sherlock earrings
  • Magnet
  • car decal
  • 4×6 art print
  • 221 B bracelet

I may not be a huge fan of the show but I am a big literature geek so I LOVE this collection of things. And it’s pretty clever how they have the Sherlock element in an actual element square. Nice pun. I’m a little shocked there wasn’t a decoder ring or something like that but I am betting those are a bitch and a half to make and would likely break pretty quick when worn too often. I like all this stuff, though!

August Writing Update

As I’ve been going through these final drudges of summer, I have been working. Another round of editing is finished for Lost Brother and I completed another short story.

My strategy now is to write during the week without self editing and use the weekends to type up manuscripts or edit those manuscripts. I’ve found this system works for meeting my daily writing goals and getting all my unfinished works finally published.

Currently, as I edit the vampire novel, I am working on an expanded novel in the Go Away Girls universe. I know the original short story has erotic elements but I’m not sure I’m going to include those in the longer work. I’ll have to see where the story takes me.
