Today’s Workout: Baking through the cold snap

wp-1675709922207

I wanted to get in my cardio before I got home (even though I’ll likely get in some squats and such later) and managed to get in 40 minutes! My thighs are burning even though it’s the peddler. I go faster since there’s less resistance.

I tried something a little different with lunch today and instead of my usual seasonings, I used half of the seasoning packet from the tonkatsu ramen and, it wasn’t as good. I do want to try other flavors but it’s looking like plain noodles with cumin, red pepper, and paprika are the way to go.

Over the weekend, we had a frigid day where I figured if I’m gonna get slammed with a terrible heating bill, I might as well get a good meal out of it. I brined the chicken and slow cooked it with potatoes, onions, and garlic cloves. Basically, this is gonna be my dinners until it runs out. Not that I mind. You can tell that if I like something, it’ll repeat in my meal rotation.

To save some money, I’m gonna try and grow some of my own veggies this year. I have some containers and plenty of seeds. I figure I’ll try lettuce, tomatoes, and various other salad elements since me and the kid are salad people. I’m also saving up for a bread maker. I’m just gonna have to find the time to make more things myself. With prices these days, convenience is too expensive.

Today’s Workout: Making a daily habit?

wp-1675269229679

I am trying to make the desk peddler a daily thing even if I do more cardio at home. This may mean I end up with three workouts in a day if I manage to squeeze in more weight training but I’m feeling pretty good! I don’t feel weak, I can see my thigh muscles developing, and I am the kind of sore that means I did hard work, not that I was sick.

I am absolutely determined to get out of the 200 club this month. I only have a couple pounds to go and it’s starting to piss me off. I will take into account that I’m doing more weight training so I will build muscle that will affect the number on the scale but still, I wanna be in the 190’s by March. I’m hoping to get back on the treadmill and maybe save up for some heavier weights to use for my upper body.

Today was boring for my food so, I didn’t take pictures. I’ll do that tomorrow.

Today’s Workout: Splitting

wp-1675105370231wp-1675122543944

I split my workout in two for today. I did the first one at work with my peddler and the second one at home on the big desk bike. the bike at home has the resistance turned way up so, it’s much harder than the little peddler. I actually break a sweat and I’m still able to write since I have the desk.

Not that my brain will let me write. Post COVID brain fog makes writing feel like I am trying to pull the words out of my head kicking and screaming. It really sucks because the ideas are there, the will is there, but I just can’t focus.

I had my usual lunch today but I didn’t get up in time to properly wash the bok choy so, snow peas filled in. It takes less time to cook than broccoli but I can add it sooner than bok choy; that gets way too soft. I like my veggies to still have some crunch, not be soggy. It was super filling so I didn’t eat much for dinner. Just some left overs.

All in all, this was a good day. I can’t say I’ll always be able to get in almost an hour of cardio like this but, I’ll do my best.

Today’s Workout: I’m annoyed…

wp-1674576587137

I got some really, REALLY annoying news at work that I won’t go into because I will get fired if I express just how pissed off I am, so taking it out on the desk peddler really helped. I didn’t feel particularly sore; or any more sore since I’m almost over the soreness from COVID. I didn’t feel like I’d pushed things too far. It was almost normal. I still don’t feel strong enough to be hopping on the treadmill just yet.

Next week, I think I’m going to break out my dumbbells and do more body weight workouts; focusing on my core. I’m not looking for six pack abs, I’d just like to be more fit overall. I want to be able to bear my midriff. I know people say I should wear whatever I want no matter what size I am but I won’t be comfortable or confident doing that now. If I’m gonna do it, I want to feel great doing it.

Today’s Workout: Sticker Shock

wp-1674236829730

I had a craving for the particular bagel with tuna from this one place by my job that has mayo-free lemon tuna that’s just delicious. And it gives me a chance to take a longer walk on my lunch break. But this time, instead of it being about $7-$8, it was $12. As much as I want to support small businesses, I literally can’t afford to spend $12 on a sandwich.

Since my birthday is coming up, I think I’m going to treat myself to a new bread maker (my current on is on it’s last legs) and make bagels at home when I want to have them. I have done it before and the dough setting on the machine saves my hands from getting sore and the ones I made tasted exactly like store bought. Maybe if I make the kind of money I need to be making with my books I can treat myself but in the meantime, I just can’t justify it.

Today’s Workouts: Moving around more

In addition to the desk bike, I had to pop over to the store to get the ingredients to make that steak sandwich again. The kid really liked it and avocados were on sale.

I thought that doing the bike and talking that walk would be too much but I was ok! And getting in those extra steps is always good. I just feel a little sore from the kettlebell yesterday and carrying the heavy grocery bag on my shoulder on the walk back. I saw some canned stuff on sale and the kid has been whining that I haven’t made meat sauce in awhile. So, I guess that’s how I’ll be spending my weekend.

Today’s Workout: First one after COVID

wp-1673899806633

Rather than screw everything up and just jump on the treadmill, I’m restarting my workouts with some very easy pedaling with my desk bike. I took my time and was mindful of how I felt. I still have some body aches from COVID (and the fucking brain fog is so annoying) so, I’m not going to do anything that hurts. I’m not at the point where I can push back the pain.

I also stopped taking the Saxenda while I was sick. COVID can already mess with your digestion so I didn’t want to add the side effects of Saxenda on top of that. I restarted this week and my weight is still around the same place as before I stopped working out so, I’m hopeful I’ll be able to reach my goals this time.

Today’s Workout: The bike for a bit

wp-1667498034424

I just didn’t have time for the treadmill since I worked late so, the desk peddler was my cardio for the day. I biked while I was catching up on some reviews (which I will be posting over the next few days).

I also made some sable fish and brought the leftovers for lunch at work.

wp-1667493215621

I know I shouldn’t be eating too much rice but the jasmine rice was the perfect companion to the baked baby broccoli. And this type of fish does have a bunch of omega 3’s to help with my bad cholesterol. I just seasoned it with some garlic powder and thyme. I got the baby broccoli from Misfits Market at a decent price and the meal was good enough for me to make it again. I have a few more filets of sable fish left from Butcher Box.

Next week, I’ll probably get back on the treadmill and I’m trying to save up for some adjustable weights to use. The kettlebell I have is only 8 pounds and I would like to lift a little heavier next year. I doubt you can get ripped with only an 8 pound weight.

Today’s Workout: Guess who’s back…

wp-1666633114669

Yup! I’m back on the treadmill and doing Zombies Run! I’m not doing any kind of program or anything; just warming up for 5 minutes, a VERY easy jog for 20 minutes, then 5 minutes to cool down. I know weight loss and getting stronger isn’t all about the cardio but; I enjoy running and I’ll work on getting in more weights. I know I need to get my steps up and this is a really easy way to do it.

wp-1666650430963

Don’t judge my excessive garlic. I like it.

I know my doctor wanted me to take fish oil but I am still trying to eat more fish overall. I baked some salmon and using the seasoning packet from some ramen, I seasoned the fish and the noodles under that fish. I split it between me and the kid so it was less salt and calories overall. I would have had some green veggies with this but my Misfits Market delivery with what veggies I could use never came.

Am I cursed to not get Misfits Market deliveries on days when I’m off work? Because it doesn’t happen often but the two times Misfits Market hasn’t delivered when promised, I’ve been off work…

Anyway, I feel great getting on the treadmill again and enjoying the Zombies Run story. Still trying to figure out how to balance the right amount of cardio and weights around my job and… Everything else. But I’m sure I’ll get there.

Today’s Workout: I’m Okay!

wp-1665689754114

More peddler today but the main star is trying out salmon in the electric lunch box.

The last time I tried putting salmon in this thing, I put the salmon in the fridge to marinate, didn’t remember how long I’d had it in there, figured it’d be fine if I cooked it enough, and ended up spending the next day bent over the toilet heaving my guts out. That was years ago and I still was afraid to see how this was going to turn out. But, luckily this was fine. And it was filling and delicious.

I still think beef and chicken are the best for this type of recipe. Maybe lemon would be better with the fish instead of soy sauce but my all time favorite is sliced or cubed beef with broccoli instead of bok choy. The noodles are fun but not necessary. I used Black Garlic Oil ramen but only half the block and half the seasoning because the soy sauce is already salty; I don’t need the ramen seasoning on top of that.

The next few days I’m gonna be taking it easy and enjoying the parts of the weekend I don’t have to work. I’m still pondering if I want to do NaNoWriMo this year or what I would even write about. All the series I have are short stories except for the First Brood series and I already started book 4. That would be cheating to start a challenge with a few thousand words already written. Maybe I’ll have a lightbulb moment over the next couple weeks.
